Hey folks, I just wanted to offer my assistance to anyone who needs help upgrading their climate control to one with an ambient temperature button. I know some people have purchased the AMB button from the dealer and rigged up a spring to hit the button hidden under the case, but I don't own a dremel and didn't want to risk cracking the thin plastic face so I simply bought a 99 unit on ebay. (It was cheaper than buying a button and dremel!) The whole installation took only a half hour and I had never pulled apart my dash before. It also gave me a chance to clean all the nooks and crannies that had accumulated some crud over the years, and I pushed a strip of anti-rattle foam back between the cracks.
A big to the .org and its members for providing so much awesome information about how to do these kinds of mods. If anyone out there has questions about how to do this, feel free to ask! I need to return some knowledge!
