I've found a big RUST spot!! AHH, question...

My father has a 95 se and I have a 97 GXE. We both take great care of our cars, but recently I noticed some rusting on the frame cross-member just behind teh front bumper. What is causing this rusting? From the pictures the 1995 obviously is far worse than the 1997, but not for long. The frame is still solid, no flexing and the rust is "not all the way through" the cross bar. But the spot is in the exact same place on each car, behind the front bumber, near the radiator and I believe some AC hoses or something? From the pics can anyone recommend what caused this and how to fix it? Anyone have similiar problems? Thanks!

my 97 is the same, rusted right where the lower crossmember attaches to the real front bumper. Buy a new bumper!

i think the 97s problem is the metal flexes from the bracket and cracked the paint allowing water and salt to get in. i don't know what to say about the 95. you could try to sand away as much of the rust as possible and then use rustoleum primer, the one for rusty metal. but you'll probably have to do it every spring.
