You have a 5-speed, right? Use only GL4 gear oil, not GL5 or a GL4/5 blend or it will destroy the bushings in the transmission. Use a GL4 with 80w90 or 75w90. I had mine replaced at a Mr. Lube in February and it cost less than a dino oil change there. Personally, I would just take the car to a lube joint, rather than do it in-home.

My gear oil was changed at 56,800 miles and had been in the transaxle for almost 10.5 years. Nissan has no recommended change interval, but I have read it should be changed every 30,000 miles. My car is driven mainly highway miles and I am not hard on the transmission or clutch. However, my fluid was quite dark and I did not like the look of the viscosity. The new gear oil was amber/honey color. Going forward, I intend to replace my gear oil every 30K.

I am not a believer in synthetic gear oil. I intend to stick with dino gear oil.

I presently have Quaker State GL4 75w90 gear oil in the transaxle and it works fine for me.
