I always thought that if you get 300zx calipers you need to be running on 17s, I dunno why but thats what I think. Or maybe I am confuseing my self with something else..

You didn't do enough research before installing. The stock 5-spokes aren't going to clear. Not sure how large a spacer you would need to get them to clear. That's probably not even a good idea. You need at least 2.5" space between rotor face and back of spoke. Probably a little more if you're using Cobra rotors.

no i don't see how i need bigger wheels but i need wheels that can clear the thickness of the calipers,, and i'm thinking of getting longer wheel studs and wheel spacers, what do you think!!!

Take some measurements with the calipers on and off. Don't think anyone here has taken the time to measure fitament on the stock wheels.

I think you would need to run such a big spacer that your wheels would stick out a lot. The stock 5 spokes are very thick, and have a very high offset, hence the sucked in look. Better off getting some decent aftermarket 16"s or 300ZX wheels for clearance. You're probably need a 25mm spacer for clearance, and then you'll have that awesome lowrider look with the wheels stuck out an inch.

When I first did the 300ZX brakes in '01, I had 17"s wheels with a 35 offset and they barely cleared. Then I swapped to 19"s w/ a 42 offset, and it took a 1/4" spacer for clearance (effectively a 36 offset). I recently swapped for a 19" wheel w/ a 30 offset for more clearance w/ the Cobra rotors and caliper spaced out. When I swapped for Cobra rotors, it brought the caliper out to a thicker area of the spoke and it actually hit until we shaved the caliper, and then I swapped the wheels. These new wheels have a much thinner spoke for clearance, I've got probably a 1/2" of space between the spoke and caliper now.

It's not just offset, spoke design is very important and the stock 5 spokes have a very thick spoke.

Offset doesn't matter as much as spoke design. Shadow already outlined it. Stock 5-spokes have rather "thick" spokes. It already has little room to spare with the stock calipers. You're going to have to get an answer from someone else about running such a thick spacer. You'll probably want to get it on all fours if your serious though..

Unless you want your wheels sticking out past your fenders, which IMO looks like @%&%&!$ you are going to have to look at some aftermarket wheels at least 17" and test fit them. I had to run 15mm spacers with longer studs from H&R on my 18" 42 offset as my spokes are pretty thick, this is just over 1/2". 1" will definitely push your wheels past the fenders I had 1" before and couldn't stand how it looked. I also have the 13" cobra rotor. Good luck.

right now i have 17x7 Velox wheels 42 offset. It clears my wheels but to the bare minimum. Here's the pic.

I can fit a credit card in between the spokes and the calliper and if i try to put to cards together, it doesn't even fit. that's how much im clearing right now.

basically, stock will not fit, but thinking of 17x7 42 offset is the bare minimum for it but it also depends on the wheel design. my spokes tend to come out a lil' bit so i pretty much took a gamble when i got them.

I had a question regarding this topic and didnt want to make a new thread, so sorry for bumping this up.

Does anyone know if its possible to fit 15" wheels around Z32 calipers w/ stock sized Z32 rotors? So basically im asking, does a 15" wheel have enough inner diameter to clear the caliper? The wheels are going to be fairly wide w/ a low offset so the spoke clearance shouldnt be an issue. I wanted a set of 15s for the front so I can run a nice-sized slick w/o having to get rid of the 300zx calipers.

I HIGHLY doubt it. The 300zx 16 should be a the smallest you can go.

Speaking of barely clearing, that is with a 5mm spacer.

Well, that right there is just clearance with the spoke. Im referring to clearance with inner diameter of the wheel, meaning that the top of the caliper hitting the inside of the wheel.

I measured about an inch from the top of the caliper to the inner surface of the wheel so it seems like it should clear fine.

I was always told nothing below 17 would clear the 300zx setup. Either spokes or inside wheel diameter. I think you should have researched a little further into this one before trying it. If you get it to fit I'll be surprised.

I did do some searching. Nothing below 17 would clear, is wrong since 16" wheels do work. For spokes it shouldnt matter too much, its mostly the spoke design and offset. As for wheel diameter, there is plenty of room with my 16" Z32 wheels.

I actually just got back from a friend's house and test fitted his stock 15x6.5" I30 (multi-spoke ones) wheels and there is still room in wheel diameter but the spokes were just barely hitting. So, it should just be a matter of finding the right spoke design and offset for a 15" wheel and it should work.
