Has anybody had to replace the cranksensor thats located on the transmission? i checked it out last night and from what the 97maxima repair manual says its bad... now i do notice that the car is slow but i have no MIL light on or anything... im wondering if i should replace it or not to see if it will solve the problem..

How did you determine it being "bad"?

never had to replace it, but once during a hard shift the connector came loose and my car died right in the road. Couldnt figure out what it was for days. Note to everyone: Get a service manual and keep it in your car.

I've had to replace both crank position sensors this year, each time one went bad my SES light came on. Also, I major had problems starting in both cases... which went away immediately following replacement.

Cuz like i said the car has a big power loss... i looked in the book and checked the timing which looks like its off by at least 15 degrees.. then i checked both the cranksensors and the cam sensor all of them looked ok.. but the last sensor gave me 12volts across terminals 2&3 insted of 5 volts.. so i dont know weather to replace it or not...

What would determine your timing to be off?

Maybe you have a bad KS ...

Unless you changed your timing chain and/or water pump, then the timing shouldn't be that bad. What's off, BTDC or TDC, ignition or cam timing? Why can't you verify using an OBD compatiable tool?

If i had some knowledge to share I would.. however I do have a brand new Crankshaft Sensor (REF) in box sitting in my apartment I could get rid of if you needed it.. it was a special order and it took too long to get to my house, my car was fixed before it arrived

I had to replace my Crankshaft Position Sensor 3 years ago, b/c the car was having rough starts, and then one cold Christmas Eve, wouldn't start at all. However, I had taken it first to the dealer and then to my mechanic b/c of the Check Engine Light, and in between, put in a new battery, before they finally replaced that part. I felt so ripped off when 2 times in a row, I took the car in and all they did was reset the computer, and then the light came back on, b/c each time it was 80 bucks or so.

What does the Crankshaft Position Sensor do, by the way?

ok... off topic.. i bought a 95 5speed just the other week and it has been starting really crappy lately, and then the check engine light came on, i checked the code, and it was the cam sensor and the knock sensor, so i replaced the cam sensor today... no change in the way my car has been starting, and it is still throwing a bad cam sensor code.... help???
