Taking out tray under headunit....

Im trying to take out that tray under the bose headunit cause im about to put in a new headunit there. I asked in the audio forum but was just told that the radio trim and shifter trim come off. I got the shifter trim off, and the ashtray assembly out, but thats as far as I got. Was pulling on things only to seem like im breaking clips so I stopped and put it back together. What I am trying to find out is if theres a write up somewhere on taking your dash apart to get out that tray and put in a headunit there, or if anyone could explain in detail for me what to do... Thanks for all help in advance and sorry that I post here but I didnt get much response in audio forum. I see many people have headunits where I want to put mine so I hope someone can help me. Thanks again.
Matt

After you get the shifter trim off there are bolts behind the ashtray and behind the top AC vents (if my memory is correct) that have to come out then the entire center console comes out as one unit. That tray under the radio is bolted to that and you have to remove that entire center console to remove that tray.

yea, you MUST remove the WHOLE CENTER CONSOLE. starting at the vents to all the way down to the start of the ebrake boot. take off all the plastic trim. I believe there is a pic of how to take out the center console on the org along with where the screws and tabs are.... look for it...i found it like 3-4 weeks ago....cant remember where though....good luck

I think everyone who intends to work on his/her Maxima should have a Haynes/Chiltons/FSM. Your question would be answered.

Anyway, the worst part about it is pulling off the upper vents/clock. You'll be convinced that something is going to break as you tug and tweak with all your might. You'll finally hear a loud sound as it frees itself from the car. When you look to see what you broke, you'll be relieved to see all pieces are still intact. Very nerve racking.

There seems to be a pattern in Maximas of clips & parts that are tight enought to break, and feel like you will.

start from the ac vents..first on the bottom part of the ac vents at the corners...then 3/4 of the way up and the sides..then the top..it iwll pop out..then take out the shifter trim, follwoed by the ashtray...and there will be 4 screws for the radio trim /ac control part 1 on the top left and top right...then 1 on the bottom left and bottom right..then its will all pop out form there..fo sho.
