Car nearing 70k. need some suggestions on TUNE UP? or PARTS replacement?

hello,

my maxima is nearing 70k, and i am curious what types of stuff I can do to replace it. the water pump and timing belt, as well as the other belts were done prior to buying it at 50k.

i know about the stickies, and i know about doing all the fluids and what not. what i want to know is, what parts specifically do I need to watch out?

i know my o2s might need to replace, and a brake job in the front will happen soon. any ideas such as valve cover gasket, or sruts/shocks??? (it might be a time to finally drop the car a bit??)

anyhow please suggest some stuffs for me to look at, aside from the basic stuffs, as I have and do keep up with those...and by basic i mean, ALL FLUIDS, brake, oil, coolant, spark plugs, cleaning the intake box, air filter, fuel filter, checking lines, etc.

thanks.

I had my TB cleaned recently at 60,000 miles and it seemed to help performance and fuel efficiency.

There is an old saying, FishyMan, that goes like this: If it ain't broke, don't fix it! I find it hard to believe that the water pump and timing belt have already been replaced, along with the other 2 belts. What was the problem there?

Apart from the fluids needing replacement, focus on the spark plugs, fuel filter, air filter and possibly PCV valve.

You might want to clean the throttle body and IACV valve and EGR systems, but of the three perhaps the EGR is the only one requiring any attention as this time.

If you have no codes, then don't worry about the 02 sensors as they are likely just fine.

Do visual inspections of the suspension, exhaust, CV boots, steering etc.

Flush the radiator and power steering reservoir. If its an automatic, flush the transmission. If the brakes are fine, bleed them all the way around and replace the brake fluid. Change the oil if it is time

You are making a lot to do about nothing, IMHO!

FYI our engines have a timing chain instead of a timing belt

there are treatments that help clean it out, or best method I would think, take it apart and scrape it clean.

I had this done last year when I bought my car and right afterwards the car was spewing out all this white smoke and the tranny was slipping or something. I went straight back to the shop and they said it was just all the gunk burning out. I guess they were right because I haven't had any trouble since. My car was overdue for one though...I think they said it should be done by 70,000 km and I was at 85,000 km.

Thanks guys. I meant the accessorie belts were changed prior, because we bought it from a friend who's a mechanic. I'm not sure about the timing chain, guess I learned something about the maximas. I don't drive it much, but anyhow.

I do give visual inspections of things, like look to see if the hoses are gonna crack, or if anything isn't working. I've been getting the wierd 0707 rear 02 sensor code on/off but will get to it as soon as i TRACK my M.O. that SUPPOSEDLY got lost as it was sent to AUTO MEDIC.

I am just curious about the gaskets, like valve cover. Certainly, I dont' think you would have to wait till it leaks to change. (Stuff like that.)

I will pick up my haynes soon.

For now I guess I'll be doing the brake job in the front. Been squeeking from time to time, and I feel I want to just change the pads/rotors anyway. I'm more into maintaining the car than doing mods and what not.

Thanks.

I think you are fine with the VC gasket. My car has 118K and I don't think that has ever been replaced.

Just follow the nissan 30K and 60K maint. schedules and then do anything else AS it comes.
