$220. plus i need my wheels aligned. another $80. *sigh* i cant win here.
i did get a nail taken out of my tire and got it fixed for a measly $15 though
so the axel boot is fubar. grease EVERYWHERE under there. mechanic said to get it fixed asap. this idea sounds.... sound.
part II:
i need an alignment.. should i hold off on it since my tires are almost band new(from dealer came on the car) and save for wheels/tires used. or get it done now?
edit: its late. and yes i know this post sucks. at least make me smile about needing to drop $300 i dont have.

If you never replaced the axles, now is a good time to learn. If there are other org members in your area, maybe they can help. driver's side was pretty easy to replace. Just read the write up on the Motorvate website. The labor is charged mostly for taking the axel off/putting it back on. I took mine off and took it to a mechanic, and he replaced the boot for free. Always make friends with a good mechanic.
$220 ??? For what?
An Axle is $60, and takes about an hour to install...yourself.
Dont pay more than $45 for alignment. You only need two-wheel (like a truck) not 4-wheel. The rear suspension is not adjustable in any way.

Drivers and passengers side axles are just as easy to replace as the other. I did my passenger side 2 days ago in 30-45 minutes, and that was replacing the boot which is more of a b*tch than doing a whole new axle. You DO NOT have to drain your gear oil to do this, so ignore what motorvate says. All you need is a medium sized brass hammer, and with the axle still on the car, just tap the axle off the inner cv (no more than a small retaining clip holding it on). After that if you're not replacing the axle, just clean it out good with brake cleaner (I used our parts washer since I work in a shop). Dont bother installing a new retaining clip since the old one will still be fine and it's extremely difficult to get the axle back on with a new retaining clip in there because it gets stretched out too much when you put it on. Install the new small put clamp, boot, and larger boot clamp. Put the full tube of grease inside the axle bearings and the boot, then line up the splines on the axle with those on the inner cv, then with a rubber mallet tap the axle back onto the inner cv. Tighten the 2 clamps to the boot. You're done
