4th Gen Pet Peeve

The first time I saw a debadged 4th generation Maxima, was probably you guessed it, the fast and the furious. Ever since then I have seen quite a few debadged maxima's, and many blunders on trying to get those letters "M A X I M A" off the trunk. I have even seen an idiot dent his trunk in doing so. And, what's under those funky, large, spewed out letters anyway? is that glue? adhesive? tape? what is that!

Anyways, every day on my walk back to my appartment from my classes here at college, I pass by a White 4th gen, which has been 'debadged' in the back. At first I thought, wow, that looks cool...but after staring at it every day, I can still read where M A X I M A was in this girl's trunk, and the debadging was not 100% clean, although at least she didnt dent her car in doing it.

Now, after reading those letters still embedded into her trunk paint daily, I have concluded that debading your 4th gen is potentially the ugliest modification you could do. Debadging a 5th gen (though I dont want to try and get my letters off) would look much more sleek, and sexy, rather than a 4th generation which leaves residue marks in your paint and a gigantic WIDE gap in your trunk leaving people wondering "what's missing here?"

I would have to assume that over 70% of people who debadge a 4th gen fail and get residue marks...if you have done it CLEAN, I would LOVE to see a pic... but just in my opinion, it looks hideous, and dont even attempt to debadge your 4th generation, or that will be a regret taken to the grave.

huge explanation for something that should read: Debadging when done incorrectly looks stupid.

...by the way, it doesn't leave residue, or a gap so.... here's mine

what is the point of this thread? I have seen several maximas cleanly done and they look hot. On the other hand I have seen several that arent done cleanly and they look trashy. That goes for anything you do. If you did a half **** paint job on your car it would look crappy, spend the time to get a good paint job and it looks good. Thanks for pointing out the obvious though.

is you wash it and wax it for long enough, you can typically get the paint to blend and it's unnoticeable. she just did a bad job. don't let one poor example leave a bad impression in your mind for this mod.

If you do it right then you will have no problems...

Use fishing line to hacksaw the decals off and then just buff off the residue with some thing like goo begone

I removed a decal from my car and you can't see any outline remaining

haha im def not a 4th gen hater. My mom has one, and I like it. Good car. I like how yours looks Maxima99SE, definately impressive...

I was thinking that too, that after many washes and waxes and a good buffer that it would blend in, but wasnt sure. sorry for so many words.

That's your opinion...95-6 remove the burger, keep the Maxima letters, 97-9 keep the burger, or remove everything. I do not think that a 4.5 gen looks good with only the maxima letters.

To each his/her own...

I think my 98 looks fine without only the MAXIMA and no burger. I might, however, strip off the MAXIMA sometime.

You're right, from some angles, some cars, it looks good. Yours is an exception to my generalization.

ditched the "burger" and "gle" with no residue. i just cant seem to get myself to get rid of the "MAXIMA" i just think its sexy. if there were no keyhole i think it would be much easer, i dont know why.
