painting letters on the valve cover...

what's the trick to be able to paint the little plastic cover on the valve cover without painting the letters "nissan..."??? or reither, painting them different colors?

thanks!

stencil over the "NISSAN" with a sheet of paper and pencil

then cut out the letters, use whatever (chapstick in my case) to secure the cutouts to the letters, and paint.

You can just eyeball the black part and use regular painters tape if you want to cover that . . .

I read somewhere you can paint the whole thing and quickly, but carefully wipe the paint off of the words.

^^^that seems pretty sketchy...and messy.

or you can just use the chapstick the simple way... no tedious cutting involved.

you can just coat the letters in vaseline, chapstick, lotion, the like. then spray the entire surface, let paint dry, wipe away vaseline-coated surface and then your done.
you could also paint the letters another color and then clearcoat it all, i suppose.

I haven't done this myself but hope to when I go home for Thanksgiving. i have heard that it has worked on multiple occcasions.

Put vaseline on and then wipe off when the paint is dry.

I used a paint marker from the craft section at Wal mart and then cleared over the whole thing once the washable paint dried.

yeah, I'm pretty sure the vaseline is the best way, and I'm pretty sure it has been tried and tested and shown to work. If it didn't, just get some paint thinner and gently wip the letters off, perhaps? Or wipe down the whole thing and start over with cutting out tape or something.

^^^^ As it has been told already get some q-tips, vaseline/cooking oil, basically any tipe of grease and apply it on the letters, and just paint the whole thing.
