Headlight Problems

I was driving around last night, when I heard a small pop and the light went out. When I checked, the bulb and exploded into a million pieces. I called my Nissan Dealership and they said $50 to replace the bulb ( But they cannot remove the broken pieces because they cannot fit out ) or $180 for the whole headlight unit. I figure that I could probably replace the bulb myself just using the owner's manual, but its going to feel weird knowing the broken glass is still in there. Has that ever happened to anyone else? What did they do? Maybe this is the opportunity to upgrade to all white lights. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
what?!
Why wouldn't the pieces be able to come out? they had to fit in there, right? My first thought would to take the headlight case off and dunp the bits of glass out, put it back in and put in a new bulb. Its pretty simple.
good luck.
good luck.

I had the same horrible experience, only it was on my Civic...the vacuum deal sounds pretty good. I stuck a damp rag in the head light and used a narrow dish scrubber thing (I think it was for cleaning glasses) to clean the headlight. The blown bulb left alot of white residue all over the glass. The large pieces of glass were a pain to get out though. Good luck!

Try getting some tubing in there, the bigger the better, and tape it to a vaccuum cleaner. Work it around looking thru the front. Any large pieces left, try some long tweezers, or wrap some tape sticky side out on a pencil and tap it in there. I know you can take out the headlight and shake it all out, but trying this should be easier.
