Best thing to do when you spill water on the shifter is take it completely apart and let it air dry. Once its dry spray it down with some clear coat finish. Make sure you check your blinker fluid after reassembly. It has a tendency to leak during this process.

Well you car has not had any problems so far right? How much water got down there?

I'm currently new to the Maxima crowd but as long as there are no computers under there you should be fine. I think i may have spilt soda in my moms shifter before on her Toyota Avalon. It was not much, but after a couple of days it was getting kinda tuff to get it in to gear. Well I pulled the shifter area apart and cleaned it up. My mom tried it the next day and said it felt great!! So as long as you don't get something sticky in it don't even worry about pulling it apart.
