removing abs fuse??
removing abs fuse??
okay, that's the first car I own wich has ABS..I really want to get rid of it 'cause I think they are dangerous and don't react as I would do...so, I want to control the wheel lock myself instead of having a stupid ecu doing it for me...if I remove the fuse, is there any issues or the abs light will come on and that's it?
thanks!
thanks!
Take the fuse out and go to a place where it's wide open to do 70-80MPH then hit the brakes real hard pretending there's a stopped car 15 feet in front of you and your side lanes are open so you can steer clear...turn the steering wheel while the wheels are locked...then get out of your car right there and then and replace the fuse and drive home...wondering why you ever said you didn't like ABS.

i had a situation when i regreted i did not have abs on my gxe... tires lock instantly, but car keeps going stait, just like on ice, not much can be done. Sure you can "try" to control lock, but why would YOU want bother with that if ABS can do it perfectly?
Wow, I am glad I didn't start this thread.
1. Cars with anti-lock brakes are up to 65% more likely to be in fatal crashes than cars without them, says a new US study.
2. ABS brakes do not help you stop quicker under most conditions.
The above comes from a Transport Canada ABS Info site.
However ABS does help maintain steering control that is their only positive side.
Regardlesss my ABS is coming out completely this winter but that is just to save weight as its going to be mainly a track car.
I would also put my skills up against ABS any day. For the average Joe I agree they should have it but I have been driving for 42 years and have been racing stock cars, motorcycles, sleds, mountain bikes etc for most of that time and I believe my skills are better without than someone who just jams on the ABS when a situation arises.
Flaming someone who doesn't like it is not going to change their mind.

Hmm, interesting stuff. I've never owned a car without ABS. Some more quotes:
"You should allow for a longer stopping distance with ABS than for conventional brakes when driving on gravel, slush, and snow. This is because the rotating tire will stay on top of this low traction road surface covering, and effectively "float" on this boundary layer.
"A non ABS braked vehicle can lock its tires and create a snow plow effect in front of the tires which helps slow the vehicle. These locked tires can often find more traction below this boundary layer."

I dont see why there is a problem with someone not wanting there ABS.
I personally think people rely on electronic devices a little too much. In a couple of years from now people are gonna post and say that they need to have EBD (electronic brake distribution). The electronic devices give people peace of mind but not always the safest.

glad to see that at least a few people in here are not talking like my mother...I just asked if there's is some issues after removing the abs fuse....don't wan't to know if you guys like it or not....thanks a lot for all giving your feelings about removing ABS instead of answering my question!!
the first question was : I hate ABS and is there some issues if I remove the ABS fuse....and no, it wasn't: what's your feeling about a guy who wants to remove his ABS fuse....I'm also surprise that some people in California are telling me that they need ABS because of the snow and also, that they know what winter is....do you know where canada is?? also, where quebec, qc is??? so that's why I'm wondering how come people in southern and eastern united states are telling me how to drive in winter conditions???
that's my point and thanks for all your opinions but I think I'll try on my own to know what happen when you remove that f****ng fuse!

this topic is so touchy. if no one has answered the question i will. removing the fuse will disable the abs and you will stop like ANY OTHER maxima that does no have abs.
my feeling is if you think abs is a god send then why dont you convert everyones non abs car into one? lay off the guy will you. abs is an OPTION from the dealer. if you dont like it then dont order it. ppl remove there BOSE HU all the time. does that make them stupid?

I'm not sure if there is a fuse for ABS specifically, but simply unplug one of the ABS speed sensors, and the ABS system will be completely disabled. It's quite easy to access the connectors for the rear sensors.

If you know how ABS works, then it can, under the right circumstances, save your life. Being able to steer while braking hard can make the difference between a small amount of damage and write-off. It's a tool, and a tool is only as useful as the person using it.
