I want to put Yokohama AVS dB tires on my 97 SE but the stock rims are meant for 215/55/16. The closest size the Yokohama's come in are 215/60/16. I have heard that choosing a tire that is larger than stock will give a speedo error. However it seems that the change in size is extremely small. Will there be any ill effects if I put 215/60/16 on stock SE rims? or should I stick with 215/55/16?

You will see about a 3% taller gearing --

Your speed will be 3% higher than indicated.

So at 60MPH indicated, you will really be going 62MPH.

If you really like the tire, then go for it--

I am thinking of going with that tire when my Potenzas wear out -- which should be pretty soon. I have 17" wheels and really want to see if they are as quiet as claimed.

 

I don't think there would be any problems with the switch to that tire size. I don't have any problems with my larger overall tire/rim diameter.

 

i have the stock se rims, and i switched to 225/55/16. the slightly larger wheel helps to shrink the ugly gap in the wheelwell. as far as the speedo error, it probabaly off by 1-2 mph, but as the tire wears down, it will become more accurate....
