300zx Rotors and Calipers

I searched, but didnt find the answers I was looking for. I know I can use a 300zx rotor with the 300zx calipers, but they need to be milled. Can someone explain this a little further?

The rotor is too wide (i.e. too big a diameter). You need to get it milled down to a smaller diameter. That's my understanding.

Gotcha. Its basically making the diameter from x to x-y. I heard 10mm was the magic number.

Exactly. I don't know how much you have to shave off - PM Jeff92se - he's the 300zx BBK king!

I dont think I want to go the BBK route though. Messing with spacer rings and relocation brackets is not what I want to do. I dont actually need a BBK. I am going for uniqueness and appearence. Thanks for the tip on Jeff. I will hit him up.

I think using the 300zx caliper implies that you are putting in a BBK... or maybe I'm talking out of my a**

For a true BBK I need to use larger rotors and the relocation hardware. I am simply upgrading the calipers.

So that would be 6mm off the diameter.

Matt or Jeff please step in if you see this.

Got it. I thought that it was *mandatory* to use the relocation bracket, etc. But I guess not. learn something new everyday. Cheers and good luck with the project.

Warner, if you use the 300zx rotors you must MILL down the RADIUS of the rotors by 3mm.
If you going with the spacers, dont forget to get longer studs. Contact Dave B for the Nismo studs.

also, you will need the conversion lines. The fitting on the z caliper is different then the maxima's caliper.
The conversion line will have the correct fitting for the z caliper nad will have the fitting to bolt onto the maxima's hardline.

You only need relocation brackets if you use larger rotors.
The relocation bracket moves the caliper out to compensate for the larger rotor.

Warner and I will both be sporting new brake setups, you should consider it as well.
You know you dont want to be the only one left with those small calipers

I dont think its going to be that bad. Not any worse then when I redid my entire setup this spring. I already had everything removed at that time. Once all the parts are in hand then it should take only a couple of hours to complete.

Anyone know how to rebuild the calipers? Since I am taking my time to do this Id like to rebuild them. Everything looks straight forward except getting the pistons out.
