Hey peoples, I gotta problem, i wanted to change the red led in the security light on my 97 gxe and so i took the light apart, when i put it back together after i saw what was inside, it stopped working. I think i might have put the led back in hte wrong polarity and it blew. Is there any way to be certain? if so can anyone tell me how. Also can you give me some suggestions on what kind of LED i should replace the red one with? Thanks guys in advance.

So people here on the board have replaced it with a 5V Blue LED from RadioShack but some have burned out whereas some others haven't...

You might want to make sure you reassembled it properly or else a new LED may not solve your problem... A visual look at the LED should show some damage if it burned IIRC.

What exactly did you do when you took it apart?

I put in a 5V two time and both times they blew. I wound up putting in a 3.7V blue LED and it's been fine. Bought them at Radio Shack.

And switching the polarity shouldn't blow it. The first time I put in the 5V, the LED didn't light up, so I switched the leads and it lit up.

I'll take a couple of pics tomorrow and post.

12 volt led

I had the guys at our shop take out the red led in my factory security light. I bought a 12 volt led from one of our distributors and replaced it. It looks awesome and its really bright. Those are the best way to go becuase that is what they are made for.

If anyone on this site wants me to get them one just ask. Our cost on it was $9.80. You can have any stereo/alarm shop install it. The led comes with a constant, ground and remote. Very basic installation!

I hope this helps,
Ryan

Hey guys i took it apart again today and put all back together and it worked with the orignal red LED. I replaced it with a blue 5v one from radio shack and it looks good but its not as bright as the red was. Oh well. Thanks for all the help i really appreciate it.
