Idle pulley nut rusted and wont budge any suggestions?

Long story short alternator went so im in the process of changing it. The nut for the idler pulley to loosen the drive belt is rusted like no other. A 13mm nor 12mm wrench wont fit on it only a 9/16 will get around it but have space. I put any force on it with the 9/16 wrench it begins to strip. ive tried liquid wrench and dont have a torch to heaten the nut up.

I thought about just cutting the belt and replacing it to atleast get it off but if I cant get the nut off then theres no way to get a new belt on.

So should I

a) keep appling liquid wrench and let it sit overnight
b) take my chances and cut the belt
c) try to keep turning the nut and risk stripping it
d) give in and drive to a shop on the battery and have them do it.

Your not using a multipoint (12) socket are you? Give the liquid wrench some time to work, its not just spray and go. 9/16 also does not sound right, perhaps someone put the wrong nut on there, have you checked to make sure the threads are all ok?

I think it's either 12mm or 14mm (14mm sounds right to me).

Let the liquid wrench work.

You are trying from below the car, i.e. from the wheel well right? You'll get more leverage that way than from the top.

You should've used a flare nut wrench.

I had the same situation. Blasted the hell out of the nut and tried the 14mm box wrench and it couldn't budge. Just ended up stripping the nut. If this happens just get a plumbers wrench and a one inch galvanized pipe to give you the leverage to crack the nut. You will probably have to get a new nut afterwards are live with the stripped nut. I don't know what size is it.

I was speaking from experience. A flare nut wrench will be sufficient.

The two times I've had to mess with the idler pulley nut, I believe I used a 12mm box wrench. As it's been advised, let the liquid wrench/PB Blaster sit, use the proper tools and you'll get that bad boy off eventually.
