is the chip visible on the key? my buddy is going to install a remote start on my car and if my key has a chip in it, he will need an extra key to put in it. i've heard about this before, but i think i remember hearing something about a bypass for this as well.
any info?

the chip is in the underside of your key. it pulls out. look the the small square under the 'handle' of your key.
99 and up have the transponder key. You will need the extra key to mount inside the steering column for remote start if so.
i have a '99 and the only key i have looks to be an aftermarket key. and i dont see anything that would pull out. the handle is just plastic molded around the key. is there a chance that not all '99s had it?
All '99s had it. You should not be able to use an aftermarket key so you either don't have a '99 or something is fishy.
so, can you see where the "chip" is? my key doesnt say "nissan" or anything on it, and i cant see anything that can be "removed"
You cannot see the chip on all the keys. I got a spare key for mine, and you cannot see the chip in it, its molded in, and it works fine. Its better to have it molded in anyway, some people have had the chip fall out of the Nissan issued keys.

read a few weeks ago on another post that it was around $100 for our cars. be glad its not laser cut, those are several hundred

What are you talking about? This chipped keys for nissans can be programed, they do not have to be ordered. I got a spare key made for $65. Dealer wanted $90. Thats cutting and programing the key. Took about 10 minutes.Originally Posted by Mmmaxx
yeah its only a 100 because they need to take the tag number and reorder it from the factory.
