i was just looking at the valve body write up and the engine is taken out... is it necessary to remove the engine? and when youre upgrading the VB, what is technically being done. i dont see the new part in the pics.

You dont remove the engine at all. Basically All you do is remove the transmission pan, then the valve body. It is not hard to do at all
