Removing trunk bars...

I am going to be removing these to do a custom subwoofer installation, will there be any problems with not having the "tension/torsion" bar's in place? I know that it won't "POP" up like normal, and it may be heavier to open, but is there anything else I need to think about? Anyone else done this?

i dont think it will even stay up unless you hold it or put some struts on it like in this thread:

http://forums.maxima.org/showthread....t=contribution

i was looking into the same thing so i could build an encloser that attached to the underside of the rear deck.

I have done this. I have a CF trunk and yes there is a way to make it stay up. The trunk will not pop up but it will open. You will lift it up by hand then the "arms" where the torsion bars you to be stuck into just pull one or both of them toward the back of the car. Let the trunk down slowley and it will catch it.

I couldn't take it off any other way so I cut it in half. That **** just flew right at me!!

yea.. but I wasn't hurt...

P.S. to the original poster... if you have stock trunk with spoiler, it's going to be pretty heavy and pretty gay standing next to your trunk and holding it open for whatever reason. I saw someone put some struts on it but I barely open my cf trunk anyways so I just have it off.

hey, experience is priceless (or perhaps almost eye-less) in this case. Thats why this .org is so funny - the experiences people have had are just funny sometimes.

well chillin014 from what I understand the spring connects from the hinge to the side of the trunk so the trunk is flung open when you release it.... tried to edit nismo808's pic to illustrate it.... credit goes to him I'm just trying to explain my understanding of how it works, anyways pic>>>>>

ohhhh, i gotcha. thank you! i appreciate the pic and everything. i'll probably try this and if i figure out how to do the strut thing i'll attempt that afterwards. It seems pretty easy if i just had some of those ball plug things for the strut to latch on to.
