begin story= Viper 791x /end of story

Search around for it and read the audio/electronic forum. All the info you need right there, without making another thread about it.

+1. Viper 791xv/Clifford RS3.5/Python 881xp, all the same product just a different remote. Expect to pay 450-500 installed. Dont bother with anything that isnt made by Directed Electronics.

I agree Viper makes a damn good alarm..

However if you really want them to now be able to drive it away pull the battery. GEt a Nice Set of Quick Releases. 5 seconds in 5 secodns out.

Unless the theif has a battery your chnages are Very good.

so would you recommend buying online such as ebay or going thru directed.com? theres a $300 price difference. or should i buy local where i want to get it installed? do installers only use their product or would they install my ebay bought alarm? how much do installs go for so i can guess the total price if i buy it on ebay.

all i have to say is "ha" don't waste ur money (take it from a guy who had his car stolen a couple of times)

get a brake lock-they don't like to work there and it draws attention and its low
kill swicth - they have to look for it
shock sensor..- a must add-on to the factory alarm
and a hood lock ..or just get some ****ty chain and lock and tie it around the connectors
.....and as for those TOW TRUCKS just turn the wheel facing the curb, with the ebrake ....now if they want to tow it they have to brake the glass to release the brake or flatbed it and make noise... and with the hood lock it would be extremley hard for them to disable the alarm!!

less than 50bucks-
it may take a 1 or 2 min to do this everytime u drive but knowing your car is secure is priceless

for added security get the open out plates that the POS club goes into.....

AS EASY TO INSTALL AND ALARM IS JUST A EASY TO UNINSTALL..
i personaly know 3 people with remote pager viper and all of those people lost there Stereo system and leather!!!

Woah buddy, your car is on stilts. Looks like some major FOURBYFOUR action there.

ill give u a peice of advice.. whatever brand you wind up getting , just get something basic.. the more add on's you get, the more headaches you'll have.. they never last long, and they never do what there suppose to.

It doesn't matter where you buy it, the installer is the biggest thing. I've been in the industry for awhile now.

Edit: Oops, forgot to add. Get it at an authorized dealer.. otherwise you'll be SOL on the warranty.

There isnt a $300 price difference once installed, the $500 price you see at shops includes installation because those shops cannot sell a DEI product without also installing it. A shop will usually charge close to, if not $200ish to install a 791xv that wasnt purchased there. So that puts you at $400, while at the same time voiding the lifetime warranty on your alarm, and also voiding the 1-year guarantee that DEI will pay for your insurance deductible if your car is stolen, up to $2500. Pay another $100 and be done with it, get it installed where you purchase it.

Purchase and get it installed at an authorized shop so you get a warranty and support. For the money, its not worth it NOT to have an alarm.

What I figured, is to spend the money i would have used on an alarm on comprehensive coverage, that way im covered for weather, vandalizm (a must when your in high school...) and THEFT. I'd gladly pay a couple hundred more a year to have the comfort of knowing i'll be reimbursed if its stolen. Given that DEI does the same, but you gotta think, Best Buy more than likely installs the alarm the exact same in every car, i.e. where they route the wires, etc. Well if someone had a friend at best buy, or had one installed on their car themselves, Disabling the 500 dollar alarm wouldnt be very hard. That and the fact that nobody pays attention to alarms anymore. You dont hear OMG someones trying to steal that car!!! You hear, Will somone shut that damn thing off! Way I see it is that its money better spent, whether you go for protection of your ride or not.

I believe that most alarms nowadays are about the same, except for features. What is important is how it is installed. The brain of the alarm should not be easily reached, it should be put way back into the dashboard, the alarm itself should have its own battery back up, that way if they disconect the battery the alarm will still sound off. The horn itself should not be visible, that way the wires the the horn will be hard to find therefore hard to cut. There should be a starter kill, a glass sensor, a shock sensor ( make sure the sensor is adjusted properly, if to sensitive it will go off all the time thereby causing you and people around to begin to ignore it when it does, if not senitive enough....well you get the picture). A brake lock works well, don't advertise your sound system (if you have one). Make friends on the block (that way they will look out for your car too). The final point is. Nothing will stop someone from taking your car if they really want it. The only thing that can be done is to make it as inconvenant to them as possible so they can hopefully move on to a easier target.
