so, loaded auto or empty 5spd
edit: oh yeah, this is the only 97-99 5spd within 100 miles of my zip code. I searched on autotrader, cars.com, craiglist, and personally went to evey dealership around here, and didnt find any. Personally, i'm fine with a bare 5spd.
same here i lucked out when i went to look at a automatic that i saw on auto-trader(originally was looking for 5 speed)and the guy was like we just sold it but i think we just got a 5 speed in but it hasnt been serviced or detailed yet. i bought it that night

So i sold the 99 and got a 5spd turbo eclipse and drove the heck out of it after putting just under 3K into it but it just wasent the feel of a maxima that i loved, it was tiny and hard to get grocieries home and i missed the max so sold the eclipse and found my current 97 SE fully loaded 5spd with DVD, auto climate, heated leather ect for 5K. Had a few problems needed to be worked out but got it done and its now a GREAT car that treats me right day in and day out.

lol talk about a hit but i knew it was coming. Going from a 13 sec built fwd eclipse back to an almost stock 5 spd maxima was quite a shock and pissed me off to say the least. But all in all it was a better choice for me imo. Sure the eclipse was a huge blast to drive and was the fasest car ive ever owned but the reliability sucked bad, not so much the motor as it was the small things like headliner, door handles, locks, power windows, sunroof, ect they all went out at one time or another. It started off being fun fixing the little things but it turned into a full time project and then the sunroof started leaking so i cleaned the drain ports and got some new weather stripping and after that it wouldnt close and i drove in the rain and got a huge shower every time
. All in all the maxima is deff a much better car for my money, i would still love a DSM but only as a side project and NOT daily driver as my old one was. One other note for you just incase you ever end up wanting to buy a DSM, everyone says how AWD dominates all ect BUT have you ever raced a built FWD dsm on the highway or from a roll? the AWD gets wasted by FWD hands down all day long. I highly reccomend the fwd version even if you cant get traction through first and second eventually when you do youll be gone.

Congrats on the 5 speed!
I love mine. Like many other people here, I had the choice between a loaded GLE or my barebones 5spd SE at the dealer. The GLE had lower miles (57k versus 73k on the SE I bought), but after coming from an auto Corolla, I swore up and down I'd never drive another auto. Plus having the stripper model, it's less things to break. haha

2joosdawg :
Nothing wrong with a AWD, from a roll yes it will be slower, but for off the line and 60 ft times awd is the only way to go. Fwd with that much power really adds up to going no where with wheel spin.

i understand that and thats what im talking about. If its a track car then by all means an AWD is what id choose BUT on the street at least in my case there is and was many more people that want to race me in the middle of driving on a road that has no lights therefore an AWD would suffer no matter how many mods. either way im prolly not getting another anytime soon.

There is a huge upside to it though, its 5 speed manual. For the same price i could get a completely loaded GLE/I30 with the same mileage. I pretty much have my mind made up which one i would take, but i just want to know what the orgers think about it: Loaded auto or empty 5spd.

sounds great they already started the weight reduction for you .
