will this work?

open your stock 97-99 oem tail lights.
open the 97-99 altezza lights

take the clear outside part of the altezzas and put it with the oem housing= all clears?

this might be done?

I suppose it could work...but it would need red bulbs for the top 2 lights, an orange bulb, and a clear bulb. Good luck finding red bulbs. Either way, it's going to look like...well, let's not go there.

bulbs are easy to find! lightlens.com should work. but yeah. wouldn't you have an all-clear lens? no diamond cut or anything? i dunno how that would look... :vomit:

i believe it has been done with the 95-96 tailights

why would you want to do that to 97+ taillights when you already have red clears avalable

yes this is they way the 95-96 tailights were made

I guess it would be hot on the 97+ cause it would be like a crystal clear and not foggy clear??

Do you mean all clear as in no red tinted brake light covers?

I thought that was illegal, which is why APC stopped making the all clear outers for 95-96?

This would make it easier to paint to create red/clears though. Test it out, post pics!

i know in MA you are required to have red reflectors in the rear and orange in the front (yes, technically it is illegal to use DC side/blinkers, but they don't do anything about it or pay attention; however you cant get your car inspected with them in.)

paitn the lens when done..if you want?...also be careful with the lens for the alteezas they are 3x as thin as the apc lenses...the ones that we have factory installed....make sure to be EXTRA EXTRA careful when prying the lenses apart for the altezzas..i cant stress that enough...gl with this if you try to do it.

i was thinking about something similar. use the clear tezza lense, clean the inside of the stock housing to make it pretty, since its ugly in there. i mean use body filler to make it smooth. then paint the inside chrome with real paint like motostorm sells. then paint the top half of the lense red like stock. it would look like newer lights. but still no reflector.
Better yet:
hell even if you took the stock light, started the DTM mod but instead paint the housing chrome with the good paint. make it look real classy you know. it would be nice to get it smooth (or multi reflector) in there like the newer cars.

Could this potentially work for 95-96's to make some ghetto-fab. red/clears? Like buy some used altezzas, use the clear outer housing from them and then paint the bottom on the inside red to match the stock piece? I'm sure it may be a bit more involved than what I have laid out here, but it's just a thought.

It has been done on the 95/96! However, the altezza lense has horizontal lines that run across the middle of it. It won't match if you only do the outter lenses so you should do the inner lenses too. Like panda said, the altezza lense are very thin. I've seen them in person and another thing that you might see is that the fit is not exact. OEM with aftermarket usually don't fit well together. I was fortunate to have gotten a hold of an all-clear lense from Bacardi and did my own red/clear.

On a 97+, I don't see why one would even go this route. There is a much easier alternative (look in the mod faq) to achieving the red/clear look. But if it was me, I'd get the gen2 altezzas because they look hot!

yeah, i'm curious now. this might come out decent or better. i judged too quickly before.

but isn't there something like how the altezza lens is a slighty different shape than the OEM lens, and therefore the altezza lens will not fit completely flush on the OEM body?

Decent....maybe, better....highly unlikely. Aftermarket fitment can never come close or equal OEM fitment. That is why they are called aftermarket. Perhaps you should search for some of the old threads pertaining to this as this have all been tried. PM Jackisss (I think that is his handle), he's done the Altezza lense over stock tail housing before.

a few members on here have spotted maxes with this done...the all clears, inners and outers. i don't think anyone has posted pictures on here but know it has been discussed before and supposedly done. to keep it legal, you could simply use reflector tape around your license plate frame or anywhere you chose...i think some people in this thread don't understand that the original poster intended on all clears like the lexus suv. as stated above just to strongly agree and advise (from personal experience): be very careful and gentle when opening altezzas because they crack very very easily.

can they handle the heat? should one just be more careful when opening them, or would it be best to turn the oven heat down? perhaps use a hairdryer for more precise heating?

good luck if you choose to do this.

technically doesn't the 3rd brake light let you get away with having all clears?

technically!

^^^ that's a good point, but there is probably something that says that the 3rd brake light is a secondary one to the primary taillights and that the primary ones must still be red. i dunno though. just playin the devil's advocate here.

(speakin of 3rd taillight, for the one on the spoiler, wasn't there ever a clear lens available?)
