5 speed or 6 speed?

5MT direct bolt-on, 6MT requires a bit of fab work.

02 manual is a 6spd. It can be made to fit but it's not worth the headache.

like stated it will work but not without some fabrication. PM tilley if your interested in how to get it functional, he should be able to help you.

if you dont want to do any fabrications, seach for a 00-01 tranny, direct bolt on.

They're out there. I picked up my 00 5spd w/ 35K for $850 shipped from Oregon.

It will bolt up, but good luck getting all the electronics to work.

Haven't heard of nearly as many blown 3rd gears with the A33 manual. Ditto diffy bearings. Not even close. No one has been able to prove WHY it's more durable, but the fact still remains.

www.car-part.com has many easier bolt on transmissions ... most namely 95-01.

Not sure what that has to do with my post, but consider the fact that the A33 transmissions will have far less miles on them, and the fact that there are far more high powered 4th gens out there than 5th gens capable of breaking gears just purely because of the power they are being forced to handle...

I aimed my reply at you since you're the one that cracked open an A33 tranny and said it was no better than an A32 5-speed internally. You also said "Or a 95-99 of course" like there is no advantage to getting an A33 5-speed. Like basically saying "get 95-01, they're all the same." Furthermore, MANY of the cases of failed 3rd gear/bad diffy bearings are on bolt-on 4th gens with aftermarket clutches. And last i checked 5th gens put out more torque and are also heavier than 4th gens. That means more load on the individual gears by default. So the "higher-powered 4th gens" point is invalid. Hell, even if the 3rd gear isn't more durable, the diffy bearing issue alone has me sold.
