questions on front lights

im trying to make the lights on the front look as cool as possible. i change the bumper lenses to ebay clears, i did the bright corner "mod," and changed the bulbs to 100w 9007 w/ upgraded harness. im looking to get dc corners and angeleye headlights, along with some sort of driving/fogs, and im debating putting in strobes.

what is the best bulb for the corners? im thinking i want amber, to match the bumper lights, and because it would look better with fogs i think. but i want bright! i dont want to end up cracking my lenses. if i get the diamond cut corners, i dont want the fried egg look, so im thinking some sort of led setup, or those bulbs that are silver when theyre off

what driving/fog setup would you recommend? i know most people are after oems like the fountain of youth. i like the way they look, but if im going to get anything, what should it be? or what should i do to the oems to make them the best they can be?

i saw a rightup on some cardomain page about adding strobes to the front bumpers and the rear signals. i was thinking it would be cool if i could add the strobes in the back to that little space below the brakelight and to the side of the signal light. i unplugged those when i put in my red/clears. does it matter what i use?

I would have to advise you to pass on the strobes. I started with a few strobes, then it turned into making my headlights flash back and forth, to putting some red/blue strobes on my dash, buying a siren, getting a radar gun, and spotlight. Then before you know it, there is 2 detectives taking you in for questioning the next morning after a police search of your vehicle reveals your goodies .

So just say no to the strobes...

cool as possible?

wire up the stock blinker bumper light bright all the time, un plug the side marker, wire the corner light to be a blinker and maybe parking light.

to get rid of the egg yolk, buy silver bulbs or paint them with high heat silver.

naah dont get cefiros. yuck. so many reasons to stay away from those. i was very happy when i went back to oe headlights. looks soo much better. stay with the stockers, retrofit projectors, angel eyes, and get HIDs. go with an all amber theme for driving lights. keep it clean. no ricer bulbs. as for fogs, keep it oem and get yellow bulbs. do some re-wiring and youre done.

and yeah strobes are stay away from those.

about to order the harness for the breaklights to rewire the front bumpers (need the ground). why would i want to disconnect the side marker? how would i wire the corner to be a blinker. why would i want to? what is a parking light?

yeah, staying oem on the headlights. ill think about doing projectors and hid. dont really like the cost involved. as for angeleyes, i might do them if i get new headlights. these need to be replaced. the previous owner got the whole front of the car covered in tiny little pit marks. all the lenses, the paint on the bumper and front of the hood, and the windshield

how would the yellow bulbs look with bluewhite headlights and amber driving lights? im assuming i would just follow the writeup to add the yellow casing around the bulb? or just throw in yellow bulbs? how useful/bright are they? i dont want show, i want attractive usefullness

thanks!

they are not bulbs. from what people have said through their experimentation, there are no bulbs out there that give you that true yellow fog look. the only thing that seems to work is the sleeve from HIDtech.com, or a true HID foglight set at about 3500-4000K for a yellow color.

cefiro's i think would look nice, but if you would rather stay more OEM, there are some from CE or ebay that are very clear and would match your DC corners. however, they may be too gawdy for a Max front end. you're opinion.

pass on the strobes. they are pretty worthless. only if you had a true all-out show car should you add them.

someone mentioned the silver bulbs that light up amber. i think those are really slick and clean up the corners for so little $ and work.

You want cool so i said what i thought was cool. the parking lights are the lights that turn on separate from the headlights. i have experimented with many lights upfront. pix:
wiring the side marker to the blinker so they only turn on with the blinker blinking together:
wiring the stock blinker to the parking lights and making the clearance light the blinker:

Wiring up the stock blinker as a parking light and a blinker:

do not buy aftermarket lights, they are junk. they yellow, pit easy, and have fittment problems. If you want angle eyes then you better get projectors in the stock housing. for fogs i suggest Hella, either the ff50 or ff75. the easiestway to get yellow fogs is with the HID tech capsules. maybe you could modify the QX4 fog light, which is a yellow projector i belive.

there has already been at least one member who melted the diffuser inside the corner.

wow, jsutter, youve done wiring stuff with your lights that ive not even thought about. do you have writeups or wiring diagrams?

prior to reading your post, i was planning to have the three amber lights (corner, front & side bumper) and eventually the fogs on at the first position on the stalk, and then all including the headlights on at the second position.

the rewire i found on vqpower for the bumper lights sets them up like this (i think):
all lights off - bumpers are off, turn indicator fires both bumper lights together
parking/all lights on - both bumpers are on, turn indicator fires the bumper lights alternatingly

on you rewires, you have both bumpers on, and the corner as the signal, correct? is the corner always on when its not blinking?

why do you recommend the hellas? and would you recommend the driving or the fog versions?

i hate the clip one wire and connect it to the blinker write up. it cant stand alternating blinkers, ie accords, cavilers, ect.
on all of those setups the corner light is a parking light (lit dimmly with the 8 watt filament).
i have 2 sets of 1157, one in the blinker and one in the clearance light, BUT only one is wired for both park (8 watt filament) and blinker (27 watt filament). I switch them around from time to time. sometimes the stock bumper light does both while the clearance light is regularly lit, other times its the opposite. in those cases the marker light is stock. acctually right now the clearance light is the blinker, and park, while both bumper lights are unplugged.

i dont have any diagrams, but its easy to do. since 97-99 have an 1157 in the clearance light but its only hooked up for parking you need to get another 1157 socket/wires. i took them from my father 96 which has both wires. then connect the ground, blinker, and parking light wires to the factory wires.

the hella ff50's have been rated very good in independent tests. i dont know which style you need, the fog lights are low, wide, and doesnt profect far ahead. the driving lights are the exact opposite, more like high beams acctually. i plan on getting one or the other, im just not sure which way i want to go but am leaning twards ff50 driving.

mk, well, ive got the corner 1157 obviously, and i just purchased the 1157 from the brakelights of another orger's partout. what do i need to do?

optimally, id like the corners and both bumpers on at first position with the bumpers as the signals, blinking together, regardless of if the lights are on or not

the second pic you posted looks awesome, i want that. what ambers are you using there?

the only way to get the single filament 194 side marker to blink and be a parking light is to get crasy with the wiring. GM uses a special device that does this. I used to know the name of it but of course I forgot.

I have been thinking about it and you probably can use the wire that sends power to the turn signal flasher relay then you can tap off it and wire up a relay for each side. the blinker relay.basicaly you use the blinker swtich to activate the relay so the light will blink.

i just sketched the idea out, and i came up with this:
87 blinker wire
87a parking light wire
30 to marker light +
85 ground
86 turn signal relay

i have never tried this but i think it can be done. i may try that acctually soon.

that 2nd pic is DC clear bumper lights with amber bulbs all from the same brand. They may be GE bulbs, i cant remember. They are 1157 in the clearance light, 194 in the side marker, and 1156 in the blinker.

ive no idea what that means

and it doesnt need to be that way. if you could do a write up of your setup, i would *greatly* appriciate it

well there is no way to make the marker light blink at the same time with the lights on unless you wire in a relay.
