Get some duct tape and some colored sharpie's.... That will fix it. There is a different quality between maxima leather and porsche leather. You can get leather put into your car for about 800-1000 dollars and it is real. Of corse that is the dealer price, you may pay more. Frank.... you probably sell hyundis so dont crap the kid out! Make sure you ask if it is real leather... wherever you buy it. If your paying 550 installed I garontee it is vinyl. In a sence, you get what you pay for when buying leather.

For a great homemade product for leather, Castor oil is good.

Level, is it tan? Anyone else notice the tan leather on these cars seems to hold up the best?

My 96 with 220K miles have tan leather and is in pretty good shape, but I wish it were softer. I want to treat them, but I don't want to make the seats slick. I just bought the car.

Leather seats? Yea right...

Lexol is THE stuff for leather. The problem is the part of your seat that's worn is not even leather. If you look at the seats carefully you can see that the only part of the seat that is actually leather is the center strip in the seats! Just enough leather to qualify as "leather". The side bolsters bottom and back are made from genuine naga as in naugahyde or more commonly known as vinyl. Amazing isn't it?

Most car manufacturers

only put leather on the "seating surface"

Actually the same on many leather couches.

The difference between higher end and lower end cars is often the quality of the seating surface leather.

My leather isn't in terrible shape but you can tell its been used. the driver's seat is the worst, the passenger seat not so much, and the back seats are near perfect except on the top of the headrest, the leather has become very rough from the sun beaming down on it constantly. i now have the windows tinted and use meguiars leather wipes about once every 2 weeks. it makes the leather look very good after using them and seems to help keep them in good shape

I bought these. They look great in my car and there real hard to tell they are covers. My seats looked like venompwr2 's. I didn't want seat covers but these looked to good to pass on and there a heck of alot cheaper than $550.
yeah could you post pictures? I'm mostly interested in the rear seats since i have side airbags and seat covers would render them useless.

I know of only one leather cleaner/treater, the TUrtleWax brand, but I haven't used it religiously enough to say whether it works or not. Which product or method works best to keep the leather from wearing out and tearing?

Thanks

Mine are decent, although they have definately seen sun, since the leather feels dry.
I used some wet papertowels in the past to clean them off, and that probably wasnt a good idea
How much does water harm leather?

my driver side is totally ripped where I sit. I'm not fat, the previous owner must of been fat and ripped it. The rest it in perfect condition. I barely like driving people around so the rest of the seats are nearly brandnew I think, unless the previous owner drove people around, but it doesn't look like it.

.... WOW THIS IS A OLD THREAD... i didnt realize when i was posting at work....

now im on the hunt for black heated leather... driver and pas. seat.... and hey... im fat... welll big boned... im not like extremely over weight....

but it really has to do with the sun and conditioning the seats... beaing fat does play a role if you ... HUGE... but even then its alright if you dont sit with .. like other keys akward shaped things in ur back pocket....

and also dont wear jeans with crazy... metal things on it etc...

stickin up for the big people...

No, I don't agree. I have had cars with leather seats before and the Max seats are real leather. There is such a thing as trade description you know... maybe what he means is, the SIDES are vinyl in some areas, sure. And it's relatively thin leather compared with what I had on my Jaguar. But it's leather for sure. And if it's looked after it will last. My 96 has spent all its life here where the weather varies from turkish bath to paint oven, and my (black) seats are near perfect still. Like another orger said, treatment, clean and condition, regularly!

What the hell was the bump for? No one thinks you're funny, actually on the contrary, most people here think you're retarded, mister 3000 rpm. Settle down and quit generally acting like an 11 year old. thanks.

Oh by the way, you don't need a poll and 10 smilies for every single thread you make. now let this thread die a slow, painful death and quit posting in it.
