short in my car need help<<----- help

im not sure, but can a electrical short chaneg the way the motor runs? can a bad ecu be causing the short? my maxiam was stolen i recovered and saved it. but im having problems finding my problem with the car. i jump start the car, let it run for a while an hr plus. and i turn it off. try to start right after i turned it off, and nothing, battery is discharged. wtf can be happening here? the car has lost lots of power. i dont know were to start or whatr to do. i checked to see if all cylinders are running buy unplugging the coilpacks and they are. but jsut not producing power. any help would be a huge help. also i did swap a automatic infinity i30 ignition into my 5spd maxima. the radio wires are all unhooked(as it was stolen) and they are all taped up so notihng touches. i also scaned OBDII and i came up with ignition error, and 2 codes for cylinder misfire's. what do i do? can bad ecu be causing this? help.

We had a somewhat simlilar test in UTI to check for a "drain" get a voltmeter and hook it up to ur car and check for a parasitic drain, i believe by the way u describe the situation u should see not a parasitic but a big voltage drain, and then begin removing fuses 1 at a time and monitor the meter to see if the drain goes away, when it does (if it does) note the fuse number and what it provides power to and begin to follow teh wiring of it. Again this is what we did in Toyota school for a "major battery power lose" If it helps great if it doesnt..........sorry

yeah, that would be a good way of attacking the problem. but if the battery is dead, and discharged there will be nothing to read anyhow? or no?

"my maxiam was stolen i recovered and saved it. but im having problems finding my problem with the car. i jump start the car,"
- point one. Why are you 'jump starting' the car? That tells me your battery has no charge. OK let's carry on . . .

"let it run for a while an hr plus. and i turn it off. try to start right after i turned it off, and nothing, battery is discharged."
- point two. It is pretty damn obvious that your alternator is not charging the battery, or alternatively the battery is shot and incapable of being charged.
Before anything else can be done, this needs to be diagnosed and repaired.

Use an ammeter to determine whether the alternator is supplying a charge. One capable of 100A should be used. You can get a rough idea with a simple voltmeter, if the battery is charging well you should get 13.8V and if it is open-circuit (dead cell) the voltage will be high at 14.5 or so, and if the alternator is not charging the battery it will read 12V or lower.

I am not going any further than this because la bateria es la alma de su auto.

i dont know if your trying to be a smart a$$ but, no need for it, if you read my post above i said i got a "new" battery , and obviously if i cant start the car right after its been turned off, the battery is discharged or the alternator didn't charge. all you have to say is "alternator", which I already thought of and am trying. but thx for the "point"

i kno this could be a long shot but check and make sure your car is fully in park...i had the same situation with my car i would start it and run it for hours and as soon as i turn it off it would not start...so what i did i clean the terminals and changed the battery and still would not start...come to find out it was my NPS (Neutral Position Switch) was wacked! so i had to keep pushing the gear stick into park and then tried to start it and it started right up with no problem...so give it a try
