Hub Retaining Nut Torque

How much torque do I need to tighten my hub retaining nut? Anybody know?

What happens if I used significantly less torque? Will that damage the axle? I just replaced my axle and it seems to be making humming and crunching noises.

it'll loosen up till it hits the cotter pin if it's not tightened all the way. Use a breaker bar and put your weight on it. If you're significantly underweight, throw on a pipe and extend the breaker bar for more leverage.

Thanks, that helped me quite a bit. I've been hearing a crunching sound from my axle. I tightened the nut and it went away. The nut only turned a little but it did the trick.
