Hi,

yesterday I stupidly left my 95 SE's sunroof open and the interior was soaked in a downpour. Since then, two things have happened:

1. My car's leather upholstry smells like a stable.
2. My airbag light came on.

Can the soaking and the airbag light be somehow related? Will the smell go away, or is there a good way to treat it.

Thanks!

the airbag control unit is underneath the center console (back by the ashtray for the backseat). If your interior got soaked, there is probably some amount of moisture in that area, which could have set the light off.

somebody posted the light reset instructions recently, just search for them. the drivers door switch is used.

Please find the Caps Lock key on your keyboard and learn how to use it.
When you post a message in ALL CAPS it makes people think YOU ARE SHOUTING!

This is the procedure for resetting the dashboard Air Bag warning light.
This information came from the '99 Maxima factory service manual.

Open the driver's door. Note the rubber covered button, a button which is
pressed by the door when the door is closed. This is the Driver's door
switch (DDS).

Turn the ignition from OFF to ON. Press the DDS at least 5 times within 7
seconds after turning the ignition switch ON. Turn the ignition OFF.
Close the driver's door. Start the engine.

Possible causes for this warning light to go on include...
- a fault with the Air Bag.
- abnormally low voltage in the electrical system due to a weak battery.
- a maladjusted door striker plate such that the door does not close properly,
the DDS is jiggled on off constantly as you drive.

If this reset procedure is not successful, or if the warning light returns,
there is a SRS system fault which should be handled by your dealer.
