I had similar issues a long while ago, and I remember cleaning the throttle body and a tube near the throttle body (i don't remember the name). The problem was resolved.

My vote is the EGR valve.. my car is experiencing the same issues. I've cleaned the TB, replaced the coolant sensor. Car is throwing the EGR code planning on changing it this weekend to see if it fixes things.

I just started experiencing this same problem last week. Rough idle and hesitation when I step on the gas

CEL finally came on today so I took it to auto zone where they hooked up a scan tool and pulled two codes: knock sensor and egr valve. I already knew about the knock sensor and had one ordered but the egr code is new, the guy there tells me this is what is causing the problem.

Is there anything else I should be looking at? My car also takes a while to start sometimes. I have replaced spark plugs, fuel filter, pcv valve and air filter within the last couple of months.

Any info would be much appreciated, thanks!

I have a similar problem. I only have one code...P0171. Lean Bank 1.

I recently installed an 00VI and went from SS AutoChrome Headers to stock headers. I do hear an exhaust leak, but I seriously doubt that's the problem.

I've done preventive maintenance while trying to fix this...and so far I've replaced:

* 6 NGK V-Power Spark Plugs - $11.94
* Fuel Filter - $11.69
* 2 Y-Pipe Gaskets - $9.88
* EGR Tube - $33.36
* Header Gaskets - $67.42
* Anti-freeze - $22.95
* Rear Valve Cover Gaskets and Bolts/Grommets - $133.29
* Knock Sensor - $204.95
* Used MAF Sensor - $50

I'm picking up an Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor once NAPA receives it. I also got another (my 4th) MAF coming here shortly...supposedly this one was 100% functional prior to removal from the car.

Other things of note: I have a 5th Gen. stock intake in my car, 5th Gen. IACV and 5th Gen. Throttle Body.

I had this P0171 (but it was pending - not lighting the CEL) since I got a new exhaust in July 2007. When I installed my VAFC-II a week prior to my 00VI install...my P0171 code became a real code (lit the CEL). It's been that way since.

oh! oh! i know! haha try a new battery and see what happens that same rpm jump was happening to me but i thought it was cause it was cold out but in fact its saying theres not enough voltage or something i know none of the battery light things come on but still try a different battery and see if that helps. as for the smell i get that to right before i turn my max off i get that same smell its the belt i think on the left side of the motor i think its rubbing up against something or actually meting cause its to close the motor idk exactly but when i pop the hood to smell it comes from that area and theres nothing leaking so im guessing the belt

hope i helped!
