squealing noise help please

hey guys,
there is a squealing noise coming from my front driver side. sounds like rubber rubbing on something. only hear the sound when the car is moving.when i go faster the sound is faster,as if its spinning and rubbing on somehting to make the squeaking/squealing noise.i already changed my driver axle but the sound is still there.i thought it was the torn boot but it wasnt. any ideas would be helpful. thanks guys

roger

Hello: I had the same problem on my 98 SE. It ended up being the rubber boots on the CV joint -- more on the driver's side than the passenger's. I jacked up the car and as I rotated the tire I used some brake cleaner to first clean the boot of dirt, grease and check for any damage. They looked fine so I sprayed them (while rotating the tire) with dry lubricant. Gunk makes one with PTFE which is a synthetic and won't wash off. Don't try WD40 or silicone or it will start to deteriorate your rubber boots. So far squeak has been gone for 3 months. The only downside is that depending on how detailed your suspension is, the spray will leave a little white residue. Can also be used for sticky/slow windows. Same downside applies. Hope this helps!!!

my first guess is the cv joint in the axle, but you said you changed it. i also had a squeeling on my 97 and it was the noise-maker arm on the disk brake pad. i could turn the wheel by hand and it squeeled. i didn't think i needed brakes, so i was looking everywhere else for the noise.

the noise sounds more like a"errrr errrr errrr" but a slightly higher pitch. i took apart my brakes and put it back together,so i ruled that out.the sound is there when the car is on the ground, but when its on a lift, the sound is hardly noticeable. i also hear it more when i turn right and its not there when i turn left. sound is there when im pressing on the brakes or just coasting. this noise is so annoying.

i recently found this problem too!

right now i know i need new brakes, and im going to replace them next week. then i will know if it was just brakes or not.

thanks for the info about the boot. my old car had boot problems where they would always tear... mabe i will get new ones or cv joints replaced (i havent a clue).

but more info if anyone has it... this is still a problem until i get it fixed.

also i seem to have it sometimes and not always. its weird... but more often than not it happens. i notice it when the windows open, on my side, its a whirring noise i belive, like somethings rubbing, like rubber or something. i did recently get new tires, i was thinking mabe it was those, but i cant tell that for sure.

replacing cv joints and axles are no fun..and its scary when they come out and look like the joints have melted and then rehardened
