1995 Black SE, rust is forming (Bubbling and showing rust around edge) around where the two spoiler supports attach to the car, what can I do to keep it from getting worse and looking worse on a students budget? How much would painting it cost?

Well you would have to have the whole trunk repainted then with your car being 10 years old your trunk would be all shiny while the rest of your car would be dull looking

actually, when the same thing happened to me, rust all the way through on one support, i was able to get really good work done for really cheap at a reputable body shop. almost a year later and no sign of returning rust. hopefully it'll stay that way.

since you're on a student budget (how come you own a Max?) take off the spoiler, use an electric drill with a rotary wire brush to get all the rust off.
Then treat all exposed areas with a good rust neutraliser. Follow with two coats of red oxide paint. Flat it off carefully then use an aerosol spray primer and keep applying / flatting down until it's level with the original paint. Then use an aerosol top coat on it, finally buff it and reinstall the spoiler.
I take it the spoiler is plastic or f/glass? Aluminium ones are death to steel bodies, they cause electrolytic corrosion.

Is there...
Is there anything I can do to stop the rusting or corrosion until I have the money to have it professionally removed? Maaco ballparked the rust removal and repaint of my trunk at $300
I'm not a do-it-yourselfer when it comes to paints and grinding my trunk.
And to whomever asked why I drive a max, I've been a huge 4th gen fan for a while, I got it for $5000 (Canadian $) and it only has 160 000 KM, its a Black SE 5 speed. Its in awesome shape except rock chips and an messed up rear bumper. I'll do the bumper cover when I do the trunk eventually

since there is rust, the nuts holding the spoiler on are probably really rusted too, if they dont break loose, the studs in the spoiler may snap loose inside and then you'll be in bigger trouble. i would avoid removing the spoiler untill your ready to go all the way. there is no way to stop rust without removing every trace of it. if u really can't wait, just sand it down and try to get some paint on it, since it's black you can get away with it without it looking too bad. as long as air, moisture and rust are there, you will still have problems.
