I can feel the restriction in the high RPMS, (imagine 6500+), and in the 1/4, as far as being fast, time is spent in the 4500-7000 range.

This is true. Oh well, mine is relegated to daily driver duties and I don't really have the mods to support it. Maybe when I do my 5-speed swap...hmm...(yeah right, that's never happening )

well my auto transmission feels heavy. It seems like it doesn't shift all the way down to first until I come to a complete stop and sit there for like 10sec. I try to take off from a rolling stop after being in like 2nd gears, and it feels like I'm still rolling along with a very heavy car. Is my trans dieing or waht?

All motor has a list of parts you'll need. You can probably figure out a rough estimate from there.

mines just missing the the lower resonator from stock sorkel. its not really modified, since i didnt do anthing to the parts, but its missing something.
but how is that an oxymoron? its still the stock box even if there are 982639 holes drilled into it right?

I recommend the 5 speed personally, even in city traffic. I have driven auto and stick cars and I find that a manual in traffic is really no worse than an auto. Sure, I have an extra pedal to deal with, but lets not forget that 80% of time I can leave it in second gear and use 1 pedal(the gas) for everything. just hang back ~10 feet from the car in front of you and you can usually just engine brake without touching the clutch or brake pedal. Stop and go traffic isn't really worse either. I have to deal with putting her in gear but I don't have to mash the brake pedal the entire time i'm stopped, which gets really annoying in an automatic if ur stopped for more than a few seconds. For me, at least, the fun far outweighs the negatives

and yes manual>>>automatic. I have a manual and my friend has an automatic 4th gen. Def. a big diff in acceleration. the manual also:
tops out higher
gets better gas mileage
is probably more reliable(reliability=simplicity)
is lighter
is cheaper to fix
can handle more horsepower
has a "cool" factor
IS MORE FUN!!!

it doesn't matter what you get no big deal. yes there is a difference, but dont compare the 5 speed like it is a WHOLE NEW car. it is still just a maxima. know what i mean? the comments about bad driver, and etc. etc. to discredit the facts that both are similar in MOST WAYS..

if u guys wanna compare just do a group outing to the tracks or whatever to compare.. but oh well.

auto isn't bad imo especially if u deal in traffic 99% of the time, or if u live in an area where you have to park in tight spaces and all that.. but whatevers, no use explaining bottom line is know what you wanna do with your platform. if all you care about is to commute then get auto, but if ur really hard core gang banging get the 5speed..

exactly. but you wouldn't know a thing about gearing and how it affects acceleration. my auto is built, not stock at all. there is a reason that all of the faster domestics came with autos. you really cant out shift a computer. any auto car with the proper gearing will out accelerate a 5 speed of the same car. its been proven over and over again. you really need to grow the hell up and stop letting these forum know-it-alls tell you what the proper way to mod your car is. start doing some research on your own.

That being said, I own both an auto max and a 5-speed TTZ. I think my Z is more fun to drive with the manual, but my max is still a scary ride with the built auto.

Not a big difference in 1/4 mile times but I would definetly rather have an 5spd.

Unless you're boosted or spraying, I'd put money on it that JClaws 5MT is faster than your auto.

I agree about the ratios, and that's one of the main reasons the A32 5MT is significantly faster when comparing to the 4AT.

But 5MT's are also more efficient.

So given the same ratios etc, the MT will still put down more power, but probably not shift as fast as the auto.

What if the 5MT had, as you call it, "proper gearing" too ...
