The look on that R1 driver's face when Rider manually jammed it into overdrive...

Depends on the driver (stock vs stock) could go either way. VLSD will also help Autos and 5spd launch, drop resistor=hot tranny I wouldn't do it on a daily driver but thats me

lets just say that the person in the 5spd knows what they are doing. in the 1\4 mile its going to be close but the 5spd will win, it might be by an inch, a foot or a car lengh but the 5spd will win, if its on a stretch, say onthe freeway, the auto will get eated up
and its not like i am beating down on auto because i drive an auto and i love it lol

That being said, I own both an auto max and a 5-speed TTZ. I think my Z is more fun to drive with the manual, but my max is still a scary ride with the built auto.
Just because it can shift faster, doesnt mean that the car is faster by any means. Sure, my auto sentra can shift faster than I can in the 5spd max, but its not a faster car. If the gearing is good enough sure it will, but if its not then it has no chance. The Corvettes are one of the only cars I know of where the stock auto is faster than the stock manual. I own both an auto Maxima, and 5spd Maxima, both 95's and the 5spd stock walks all over my modded manual all day long.

I believe that the "faster domestics came with autos" because most people dont want to be bothered with driving stick anymore. People want things that are easy and convenient, and for most people these days, they dont want to be bothered with a clutch pedal and shifter...because then you cant do the 135013571857138 other things people do while they drive these days.
Not trying to argue, just expressing my opinion.

I find it funny everyone assumes they can jump into a 5 Speed 4th gen and completly "own" an automatic maxima.

FYI, last time I was at the 1/8th mile track, I was doing as good as or better than a 5spd with the same mods (except they had lightened flywheel). It's all about the driver and the conditions.

Now if the driver in the 5spd maxima has a lot of experience and can drive it well, then yes, the auto will lose obviously.

And I don't care cause I get the better mileage on the highway.

Try looking into a built auto, or perhaps cryo treating your existing trans.

Would any of us actually consider cryo treating a 10 yr old maxima transmission? Lets try to be realistic.

WTF? A stock 5-speed will murder a stock auto any day, highway, drag strip roll, stop, 0-60, 0-100, 50-100, you name it. I ran 15.00@92 mph when I was stock. Most stock autos are a full second slower. Typically 1 tenth is about one car length. Gives you an idea of the difference between a stock auto and a stock 5-speed

Fastest stock auto 4th gen= 15.6
Fastest stock 5-speed 4th gen= 14.51@94 mph

Yes, very high 15's. 15.8-15.9. One 15.6. But nowhere near 15.0's or 14's.

Stock 5-speeds have been in the high 14's. I wasn't good enough a driver to pull 14s stock but several have done it.

Stock vs stock there is about a second of difference. A dozen car lengths, give or take. That is huge.

well thats the same thing i was saying, 5spd is naturally faster that auto
and in any car, a manual tranny is faster than an auto any day

Whoops, yea it is a typo I meant the stock manual walks over the modded auto all day. But the auto has beaten 5spd max's before...just not by much...without the nitrous that is.
