Intake below the bumper of '95s

I noticed that the 1995 Maximas have a little intake that sits below bumper level on the drivers side. This feature is not on the 1996s or any other year, as far as I can tell. I asked various people at the North East meet and they had no clue what it did. Any thoughts, or does anyone actually know what it is or what it does?

Are you talking about the duct that is on the bottom grill? I was told that it is a mock transmission cooler, because it brings cool air from the front and redirects it to the transmission. Go ahead and follow the tubing and follow it. They probably tried it out on the '95 and stopped in '96 b/c it wasn't effective
