Alarm went off, How do I cut it off????
Hello everyone, hope you are having a good day.
I have owned my 95 SE for about a month now, I have driven it just about every day. I arrived home today and went back out to my car to get something, and the friggin alarm went off. It has never done this before, nor do I know what I did to set it off. I never even knew it had an alarm, other than the flashing red light beside the cruise switch. I had to open the hood and remove a battery cable to get the thing to shut up.
How do I reset it so I can drive the car??????
What did I do to arm it in the first place?????
PS. I did receive a keyfob with the car, but it doesnt work, so it is sitting in my junk drawer in the kitchen.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks, Jim jimtrainor@bellsouth.net

well if the car was locked and armed, and you opened a door say with the window open and unlocked it from the inside, and open the door, it would trigger the alarm. if you have the remote, you could hold the arm button until the alarm disarms or stops.

I understand the keyfob thing, but as I said in my original post, the keyfob does not work. I tried putting a new battery in it, but it still does not work.
So you are saying, when I hook the battery cable back up, I simply unlock one of the doors or the trunk to reset the alarm? If that is the case... Then thank you very much.
I am still wondering, what armed it in the first place!!!!!!!!
Happy Thanksgiving y'all. Jim

30 secs i think after all doors are locked and the last door is closed, it automatically arms.
Im willing to bet that if you reprogram the fob, it will work. I dont remember the exact details, but you get in the car, lock all doors. Put the key in and out of the ignition quickly 10 times until both turn signals flash. Open the driver side lock (dont open the actual door) and then hit the lock button on the remote. I think thats it as far as i recall. Theres a thread somewhere about this, but you'd have to search for it.

OK nissan6, I removed my phone #.
Thanks yall, I put my key in and turned toward unlock, and it disarmed it.
I will go through the procedures to program the remote tomorrow when I get home from work.
Forums like these are so valuable. How did we ever make it without computers/internet & forums.
Happy Thanksgiving to all. Jim

A New Twist On This Problem
I've got a new twist on the alarm problem - at least I think its the alarm. My wife was driving the car (a 95 SE) this morning and while it was parked at one of her stops, the horn started blaring, lights flashed, etc. without any provocation at all. The windows won't come down, either... The hazard lights flash in addition to the headlights. It isn't a real "regular" type of beep - sort of weak and hit and miss. Since then, it has done it twice while just sitting in the garage with no disturbance at all. Makes me think that something is shorting out somewhere in a harness, but I don't know for sure. (Which is why I'm here asking for help). I've pulled the alarm fuse out of the fusible link box in the engine compartment and its been quiet since then. The windows still won't work, though. All the fuses look good - no meltdowns.
Any ideas about how to get this gremlin under control?
Thanks in advance -

The areas of complaint sound like they're related to the Body Control Module, located just above the ecu. It controls the following:
* Power Window
* Power door lock (which could have set off your alarm)
* Teft
* Interior lamp
* ignition key warning
* wipers
* Rear defoger
I'm still reading through the factory repair manual... There's a lotta info. HOpefully someone else knows more about it than me. If it is the BCM/IVMS/LAN system, you can hook a Consult to it and run a diagnosis.

Thanks - what you've listed sounds like it catches just about all of the problems. The wife told me last night that the defogger light and interior light started to blink, too. I'm not overly familiar with the layout - sorry - where is the "ECU" located? Would my local indie repair shop have a Consult or do I have to go to a dealership for a diagnosis?

Fixed?
Just an FYI about my electrical issues in previous posts. After a long time at an independent garage, they gave up and referred me to a dealership. Before taking it in, I decided to poke around under the hood one more time. I removed the box cover for the fusible links (driver's side, near the battery) and found a 7.5 amp fuse labeled "BCM". I pulled that fuse to see if it was burned out. It wasn't, so I put it back in and started the car to take it over to the dealership. Everything was working fine! I still took it to the dealer, who told me that by pulling and replacing the fuse, I caused the BCM to re-boot. He suggested driving the car for the rest of the weekend to see if the problem came back. So far it hasn't, and I think I'm pretty much home free. According to the dealer, there is a mulitplexer in the driver's door which, although sealed when new, could have gotten wet and caused the original problem.
Thanks for pointing me to the BCM. It appears things are fixed and it really didn't cost me anything other than a bit of worry and aggravation.
