rear shock assembly...creek

I am getting a creek comming from the rear, it just poped up about 2 weeks after everything being put on. First it was the driver side then I realized I could hear it on the passenger side rear as well.

KYB AGX w/S-tech
Bens Mounts
Spring were seated propely.
Isolators are covering the spring all the way

The sound is similar to Styrofoam, or rats... and I know I dont have rats back there.

When I re-installed the rear shock on both sides I forgot the red thing that is ontop of the shock assembly. They were in bad shape, but should be about $10 at the dealer.

Could lacking this on the shock assembly be the cause of the noise?
If so Why wouldnt the rear have made noise the next day after installing versus 2 weeks later? (maybe all the WD-40 I sprayed??)

Also, I havent gotten my alignment, since the rear is non-adjustable and basically as long as the front is in spec the rear will be, doesnt this mean the rear could be taken off and put back on many times and still be in spec as long as the front isnt touched?

Thanks all.

I had the same problem and it was because the strut mounts were bad. The rubber bushing pretty much decinigrated because the installer over torqued the bolt.

All the rubber ont he shock assembly was in good shape, nice and rubbery still. I believe the red thing I was talking about (I know the name but its saved in my parts file at home) maybe the source, I will put them back on tommorow, but I wanted to get peoples advice incase when I put it back on, it doesnt solve it.

How did you go about this? Did you purchase the material from a local auto store, and just cut to shape the top of the assembly? The oem gasket was in bad shape when it came off, and looks thin and flimsy, would rather make the gasket and have a better one.

Make sure the nubs on the rubber bushings holes fit securely in the mount's center hole. That centers the shock and isolates the piston from the mount, which could be the source of some noise.

If the bushing nubs are all worn, get new ones. Tokico provides new bushings with their shocks.

mine dont creek when its cold, it creeks period. I'm sure the shocks arent leaking but I'll double check.

I believe its the rubber bushing that needs adjustment, gotta do it this weekend when I can rent a impact wrench and spring compressor again.

to use in conjuction with the spring compressor in order to take apart the rear shock assembly. I dont want to do it by hand, would tire me out fast.
