How does your engie start?

When I start my engine cold, it immediately jumps to ~ 2100 rpms, then it goes back down to ~1100 after a few seconds and finally after 1 minute it lowers down to the norm 750-650rpms.

Is that normal? The high-jump in RPM's when it first starts? Just curious to see how other 4th gen's start.

Yes that sounds normal for a cold car. Every car I have ever driven does pretty much the same thing. It should be a little bit lower like 1600 or so revs but depends on how long the car has been sitting and how cold it is

the 'high jump' in rpm to 2k and it hangs for a second, drops to idle. your car is normal

Just went outside and checked mine, doesn't go higher than 1300, when I start it up it jumps to about 1100 then hovers there, and the RPMs slowly raise.

I'm bored, so here's a small vid of it (keep in mind it's like 36 degrees at best out there, and it hasn't been turned on in a few days): Video.

Crappy lighting out there, and small res so as to keep the file small for those on 56k.

Yeah mine always stays at 1100rpm and when I shift to reverse, it drops to normal idle around 700rpm.

when my cars real cold it take a few trys to get it to start and i have to give it a little gas. Also, sometimes when i have to do this it makes a horrible grind noise in the engine.. very worried about that one

Youre probably cranking it too long. That or a dying alternater. But an alternater squeeks not grind, so scratch that.

I wish mine did that. I just put a 96 Infinity engine that had been sitting on a shelf for a long time in my 96 maxima that the engine was locked up in when I bought it. When I got it in and tried to start it, it would not fire. It was getting fire and fuel pressure. I changed the front three injectors from out of the other engine and it fired up and then picked up another cylinder. At the present time it is still running on four cylinders. I guess tomorrow I will take the intake manifold off both engines and swap out the other three injectors unless anyone has any better ideas.

Sure seems common to me. My GLE does the same thing and I know the engine is in good shape.
