My car starting wasn't that bad, but sometimes ran into a problem of it not starting the first time (alwys started on the 2nd try) - replaced the ignition switch before it got worse so I wouldn't be stranded somewhere
Also make sure that your battery terminals are clean

Another possibility is a bad crank or camshaft position sensor. Mine would intermittently not crank due to that, and I didn't get an ECU code until it was happening consistently.
However, my first bet is the ignition switch - many Maximas have had this problem.

I had the EXACT problem you're describing from time to time:
Full power on ACC (headlights, interior etc were fine,) but turn the key and NOTHING happened (starter didn't do anything.) I thought this was the ignition switch, but in the end it was actually the starter acting up and on its way out.
I would sit in my car for ~ 10 minutes and then try again and it would be fine for weeks, then it would happen again the same way.. until finally the the starter started cranking slower and then click click click...
Good thing it's easy to push start our cars

Try checking the battery teminals and the negative wire to the car first. I had a similar problem twice before. First time on my old car it was the negative wire having a bad connection to the body and 2 days ago on my max the terminals were thinly coated with corrosion and it again hapened just as you described until my dad cleaned them while I was at work. Problem was fixed both times.

OK the car is fixed!! I replaced the ignition switch(located on the opposite side of the ignition cylinder). Easy to do just 2 screws and a harness connector. Starts every time now. I didn't realize there was a separate ignition switch and cylinder. That's kind of nice since you only have to replace the switch if it's bad and not the key and cylinder. It's a drag when you have to have 2 different keys that look the same but only work in one location. Oh, by the way it was only $30.
