is hard acceleration bad for the engine?

Is flooring it from a roll bad for the engine? And if so, how bad is it; what can happen if I do so often (2-3 times a week)? What can be damaged?

no... unless you do it all the time for a long time and never let it rest... or if there is something wrong (oil needs changing, coolant problem, etc...)

just remember... smooth motions.
don't just stomp the pedal. push the pedal to the floor in a controlled motion

Most engine wear occurs when people start their cars in the middle of the winter and immediately proceed to rev the crap out of it.

Flooring it at normal temperature if you maintain it well doesn't seem to have much effect. I have 250 timeslips this year alone and the engine doesn't seem to mind at all. I also love 2nd gear WOT runs.

once you dont hit the pedal all the way and let go and hit it again, if your auto it could put some wear on the mounts

hell when i had my GST while cruising at say 30mph and somone pulls up and wants to go from a roll id push in the clutch and either hold it at 7K or sit there holding it to the floor bouncing off the limiter at 7500rpm to build some boost and take off from that 30mph roll in 2nd gear it was great fun!!

At least 4-5 times a day.

Full throttle is just too much fun not to enjoy.

I would argue that it's good for you engine. Keeps her clean. Our engines don't have enough power to self-destruct.

Going WOT (wide-open throttle) is not bad for your engine. If you want to be nice to your engine, though, let it warm up fully (so the needle in the temperature gauge is in the middle) and then you can take off. I probably go WOT 5-10x a day, it's almost impossible not to..

Don't come in here yacking and complaining about how poor your gas mileage is. Going WOT all the time kills it.

My car loves WOT. He begs for it sometimes. I don't do it that much though because I don't want to attract attention from the fuzz with my loud exhaust. I do love the sound of that intake though

give me my old 300ZX back and I'd wipe the floor with your DSM... and it would STILL be more reliable! Ha! Nissan/Datsun/Infiniti Forever!

all that was needed was replace the fuel injector with new one, replace oil cuz gas was in there. and replace oil again in a week to clean out system.
