Replacing worn out steering and suspension components....What needs replacing?
I was thinking about replacing the old and worn out suspension and steering components and wasn't sure what all needed to be replaced. So far I've thought of the following:
wheel bearings
cv joints
shocks/struts
inner/outer tie rods
lower control arms
sway bar bushings/endlinks
I've just been reading and these are some of the replaceable items that have been mentioned to improve the steering and suspension. My car has 185,000 miles and I was just wanting to get an idea of how much this stuff was going to cost. Thanks in advance for your inputs. It would also be nice to know where everyone has bought these items so i can compare costs and if they are happy with the quality. Also, for those of you who have bought these items on e-bay, how is the quality? Thanks again.

I wouldn't replace wheel bearings, axles, or steering components unless you think they are in need of it. OEM parts are pretty good quality. AFtermarket? quite variable.
Shocks/struts: KYB GR2's $250 for 4 corners
Strut mounts: $35 each
Strut bearings: $40 each IIRC
Shock boots: $20/pair IIRC
Control Arms (includes bushings and new ball joint): $175 each
FSB endlinks: $18/pair
Some online dealers/nissan parts suppliers offer 20-30% off retail. Local dealers usually do retail prices only.

if you have no problems with your wheels bearings do not replace them. Same with you CV joints.
I think control arms maybe a bit much, but if you want to tighned up steering then go for it.Other than those your list is good.

wheel bearings: $100/pair + 1-2hr labor
cv joints: just buy a new axle, or reboot them for $90/axle + 2hr labor
inner/outer tie rods: $50/pair, 50/pair
sway bar bushings/endlinks: bushings $15, endlinks $?
Don't forget the alignment.

This is exactly the info I was looking for. Just wasn't sure what all there was that may tighten up the steering and smooth out the suspension. Thanks to all who have replied. Keep the replies coming. Oh, I meant cv axles instead of cv joints....oops. Thanks again
