Got 357 miles from a full tank!

I went on a road trip this weekend and got 357 miles on a little over 15 gallons of gas! I don't think I've ever seen my car go more than 260 miles on a full tank in stop and go conditions. When I consider that I'm only getting about 15-16mpg in city driving, that was amazing!

Oh noes, another gas thread! I was getting ~370 city miles/tank before it started getting cold, now it's dropped down to about 310... You'd think it would get better, but then again, VQ + cold air = lead foot!

I guess thats ok mileage for a road trip. I recently got 480 miles on a tank of gas on a trip to NC. It came out to be 28 mpg.

Yea, I got sub 400mi/tank in word possible conditions... normally I'm well above 400mi/tank. When I went on a trip to maine this summer I averaged 29mpg..

A month ago I was curious if driving "nicer" (shifting at lower RPMS, taking car out of gear and coasting when slowing down and in other scenarios, basically limiting the RPMS whenever possible... driving a bit slower on the highway then I normally do etc.) I did this for two entire tanks and got horribly worse mileage then I do with my normal driving of medium acceleration normally, shifting at 3500 RPM normally, sometimes a bit higher when the urge comes.

The only reasoning I could come up with was that because I was accelerating slower to get up to speed that the length of time I was on the gas to get up to speed offset any other savings, whereas when I accelerate faster I can get into a higher gear for maintaining speed much quicker (thus getting to a constant low RPM rate faster.)

Go figure.. going fast makes you save gas (atleast for me.)

I continually get over 30 mpg on long interstate trips with my 95 5-spd. I can't imagine getting anything below 25 for highway driving.

No kidding...check for codes and check the knock sensor, also fuel filter and spark plugs should be check/changed. I usually get 400 to a tank in the city running 93 mostly driving about 60mph. Knoxville/Alcoa TN is a little spread out.

I usually get around 420 miles/675 km on a tank but now that winter has hit my mileage dropped. I'm sure I could do better if I drove less "sporty"

If you did an actual full tank (18.5 Gal.) you would of gotten more.

No one can fit 18.5 gallons in a Maxima, I don't care what Nissan says.

That's only because you have to drain the remaining 1 or 2 gallons from teh bottom of the tank, even when you run out of gas theres still gonna be gas in there, thats why nobody has filled 18.5

also I get 360/22mpg all city, changed both o2's and its been great since.

How high are you guys accelerating up to getting 400+ miles per tank? I tend to baby it a lot letting it shift at 2000-2500 (auto). Maybe I should test out tomservo291's theory in taking it up a little higher.

It's not. But when I got back from Philly I had to fill her up again so I could make it to work.

I just changed my knock sensor. I plan to check the spark plugs and fuel filter when I have time.

How do you know how many gallons you have used to make this calculation?

I must have a serious problem somewhere because the most I get is 250 per tank. I have no codes and have changed everything but the plugs.......maybe that's my problem.

I'm pretty sure he filled it up at the begining of the trip and the next time he filled it up he only had to put in 15.93 gallons.

1st tank of gas in my 98 was from Johnson City to Knoxville to London, KY, then back to Knoxville last night. Filled up in Knoxville at 357 and not I am back in London. I am thinking this tank will be better because the first one had a lot of "tests" on it..being a new car and all. Oh, How many other people are on here from Knoxville, TN? maxgtr2000, What part of Knoxville?

These threads would die a quick death if people would quit wanting to brag about a few more mpg.

Just say no to drugs and gas threads.

So what? Do you want a cookie? Try getting 525 miles. 23MPG is nothing special.

That one won't help with MPG since the front ones control the air/fuel ratio. If you have high miles, replace the front ones since yours are probably acting even though they aren't throwing a code

I changed mine out at around 115k (don't remember exactly), but I went from the 15-18 MPG range to 20-22 range

Got mine from the oxygensensor.com group deal (10% off) for $113.xx (Walker OEM)

Hey thanks for the advice JaTaN...I have 152,000 miles and as far as I know they have never been changed, so right after Christmas I will do that.
