Emergency Brake Cable
When I took my '95 into the dealer a couple months ago to have a water pump put in, they found the insulation around the brake cable to be in need of replacement, and when they called me about it (before doing the job since it was not in my original plan), I asked about it, and they said it would help keep it from freezing up the brake line. I haven't had too much problem with the brake freezing up, so I'm guessing replacing the insulation around the cable helped.

i've gotten into the habit of putting up by ebrake everytime i park even though i have an auto. it takes some load off the tranny and keeps the cable from going wonky (technical term). if it never gets used a lot of the time the cable sticks somewhere and becomes hard to pull or slips out of position.
