engine crossmember
engine crossmember
Hi, im posting this for my dad since he was forbidden to post unless he responds to 15 posts (LOL!) :
" I have a 97 maxima. Today I was replacing the 3 oxygen sensors. When I pulled off the 2 pieces of plastic shields that protect the front bottom I was shocked. The front body member that holds the radiator is halfway rusted through. It is rusted between the two big bolts that are holding the front of the engine cross member. I just bought this car from my neighbor (old lady original owner) a few months ago and I think that it is a great car with almost 0 body rust and a nice smooth ride. I am new to the maxima scene and I am wondering is this a problem that others have experienced? Is there a remedy or repair kit for it? I am thinking that I will have to have it welded before it weekens more and the weight of the engine/tranny will starting to bend it down."

Rust has revaged my undercarriage as well as the lower radiator support. The only thing you can do is cut the old one out and weld the new one in. Nissan sells just the lower part seperately. Here's a link...http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...=5&catalogid=2BTW, i'd have a body shop specifically do it if i were you.
Mine is the same, its just the part where the two bolts for the crossmember bolts in. What I did was get a 3/16" of plate that extends about 3" on either side and had it welded in. The rest of it is fine no rust, I think its because the crossmember causes it to retain moisture/water and causes it to rust there.
