i have a 97 gxe 5sp..i would like to override the speed limiter on my model which would require a 97 SE 5sp ECU. must be from philly or NJ areas. would anyone be interested in a trade? also, correct me if i'm wrong: both jim wolf technology and G force ECU will set the MIL light on right? i've given the aftermarket a thought, plus recent posts have led me to believe their gains are less dramatic than with the 95s and 96s..thank you for positive feedback.

Me too

I'd like to do the same thing.

I need an ECU from a 95 SE Auto to go into my 95 GXE auto.

Thanks.

I'm thinking of going w/ the ECU upgrade, but a guy at a parts shop told me if I purchase a used ECU (for the same model year) it has to be an ECU of the same or more recent than the ECU that I currently have.

for example my car was produced in Nov. 95 (1996 model year) so according to this guy if i buy an ECU from a Mar. 95 it will not work properly in my car.

Can anyone back this claim up??

Yes. 1. )The earlier '95 ECUs weren't fully OBD-II compliant. 2.)It's illegal to use an older computer in a newer car (some DOT rule).

good info to know. thanks a bunch. i wonder if anyone has tried putting an older ECU in a newer car? what do you think would be the expected results??

in any case, i'll prob not chance it--don't want to ruin my sweet V-6..ah well...

do you know the exact part number for the ECU that doesn't have the speed limiter and is compatible with my 97 gxe? you mean to tell me that nobody here wants to trade ECU's with me? not many people are crazy enough to test out their top speeds anyway. there must be a 97SE owner locally from NJ/PA out there i can trade with.

Good luck, almost everyone doesn't want the limiter.

Why would someone want to go through the huge hassle of removing there ECU for your's? Do you know how to remove your ecu? It's not a lot of fun and is easaly a Hour job or in some cases much more. Either offer a trade+$$$ or just buy a used one. I got a ecu a while back for $125. The ECU you are looking for is a 97 SE, then if your car is a fed spec make sure you get a fed spec ecu, if your car is a cali spec then make sure you get a cali spec ecu. The only other thing you have to match up is your trany, either 5spd or auto.
