I've been thinking about doing this myself for a long time. The chrome paint is coming off of some of the letters and looks kinda crappy. I also like the clean look with the trunk 'shaved' and it also adds a measure of stealth to the car so it can't easily be identified by the law.
I've got a pic or two somewhere, I'll see if I can post them.

To remove them, simply heat them up, use a blowdryer. Then if there is any goo left, use Goo-Gone, great stuff. Of course you will still have the lame, unnsymetrical keyhole. I shaved mine but you could at least paint it body color.
I say go for it. A.) our emblyms are just way too big, B.) It takes away from the clean look C.) Differentiate yourself from ever other non-customized Maxima out there (and even most customized ones for that matter!), C.) It's always worth a chuckle when you get a parking ticket at school and the ticket reads "Model: unknown" or when the oil change guy at Wal-Mart is writing down your Make/Model, he goes to the back, gets a blank look and then asks you the model! lol. Like someone said, we are fortunate that we don't have holes behind ours. So take advantage of that. Kill the chrome!
As for pics, could you e-mail me at home ptatohed@netzero.net? I'm at work right now. I'll be happy to send you some. Good luck.

Heatgun!!
Go buy a heat gun at walmart for 21 bucks. its worth, seriously. I treid doing it with just a hair dryer. it was just impossible. Seriously you will be so happy you got the heat gun, and jsut return it the next day if you want. It takes the goo off to (just heat the go and use your finger) thats what i did and it looks nice. Ill take pics tomorrow if you want.

Maybe if oyu have a good hair dryer, but its much quicker and eaasier with a heat gun.
Yes the hamburg one is the same way but it took me like 15 minutes to get that one off, dont nkow what, it was just really stuck on there.
The M A X I M A ones are really easy to get off. Keep a sponge on hand, after your done shaving, wipe it off, then using hte haet gun, heat up the goo, and peal it off, then get some detailing stuff at VIP or a autoparts store, and detail that area. THats hwat i did, you cant see an outline anymore, and its only beena week.
Oh, wash it a few times too.

You don't need heat/ Alwasy remove before painting
You can remove the emblem with a piece (well, several pieces) of dental floss. Just use the floss to cut through the goo behind whatever you want to remove. You can rub off most of the thick goo with your finger, then polish the area with a good auto polish (clearcoat safe). Heat might help, but I've done it several times with just floss.
*Always* remove all emblems when painting a car. You don't want to paint around things. Also remove any and all lights and other trim that you can handle. Reinstall after painting and you'll have factory quality edges that don't chip later or just look messy. Remove side moldings too, as long as you can afford to replace them. You are paying hundreds of dollars (or more) for paint, spend a few bucks on replacement trim.

I want to remove them also but since I've got a 96 Max I'm afraid I'll still have "M A X I M A" on the back of the trunk due to differences in the paint color...anyone removed them from a 95-96 recently and had problems with the paint color??
