It works. You need to weigh the car and enter it into the G-tech along with some other paremeters. It's better for benchmarking and seeing what parts give you what performance gains more than saying the your car will 'do the 1/4 in 12 seconds', and will give you estimates.

The car needs to remain relative level too. If that car tilts back too much during acceleration while squatting on the rear suspension, that can alter the readings as well.

I have one too...

The only instance in which you need to know the wieght of your car is for HP measurement. It also does 0-60, 60-0, 1/4 Mi., and lateral acceleration in G's. These don't require weight measurement.
Note... think carefully about where you are going to use this thing if you really want one, because:
a)you need straight, level road
b)where no one is going to be going slow or stopping in front of you, and
c)where you think you can get yer car up to 90MPH from a stand-still w/out the fuzz seeing it.

I guess I'm a wimp, cuz here in Austin, I haven't yet found a place that I feel safe to run the 1/4. I've had the G-Tech for 3 or 4 months and I've done lots of 0-60's in a warehouse access road, I've done the lateral G's in an abandoned Wal-Mart parking lot, and I've done HP down a neighboorhood street (you only have to redline in second gear to get max HP).
Here are my numbers
0-60: 7.3
Lat G's: .86
HP: 176

Good luck,

Justin
