During the first oil change After switching from regular to synthetic, I noticed that the synthetic oil that was coming out is very dark/dirty compared to the subsequent oil changes after that. It seems like synthetic oil has stronger? detergent in them to clean whatever gunks left behind by the regular oil. So base on that I don't think it's necessary to flush the engine first when switching to synthetic but rather have your first synthetic oil change earlier than subsequent ones.
