Is your radio on while this was happening? Try turning the radio off and see if the noise is still there.

If your Max came equipped with Bose, it might be one of your bose amps getting ready to go out. That's usually a sign of a failing amp output channel. Mine started with a faint beep and started getting louder and louder.......but that was an aftermarket amp which I have had for many years. I ended up getting a new amp.

If the sound is only present while your system is on, you have to try and track the problem somewhere in your audio system. If you are running an amp, try disconnecting each of the rca cables until you have identified the culprit. If you are running an external EQ or some electronic x-over, that could add complexity into trying to identify the problem. The more components you have, the bigger the chances are of introducing noise onto your sound system. If you are using cheap audio cables, that could also be the source of the problem. Ground-loop can also cause this, you should keep that ground cable as short as possible.
