When you put gas in your car, you leave it on?
It seems like the main reason people turn it off is to avoid explosions. Its not going to explode from the car running. The only thing that can really ignite the fums is static or smoking. The main reason i leave mine on is because I usually get gas right after i leave my house so my car isnt all the way warmed up, so its a perfect time to warm it up,especially now in the cold weather. If i'm going to stand out side and freeze me bunz off filling up I at least want to get into a warm and cozy car. Just my logic.

It makes sense for me to leave it on
on my point of view is like this, the car is running, it uses the gas from the tank that is been there, you put new gas into your tank, it dose something to your car......... ah kskl;askl
dont know, i always turn mine off,
my best friend puts 87 octain in his 2004 Altima, when angine is on. lol
and when you come to gas station , its says
TURN OFF ENGINE, NO SMOKING...

I turn mine off and wait next to the pump (not that hard to stand there
)
If I'm not filling up all the way, I usually try to put in exact gallons (like 5.000 or 8.000) for some reason... Sometimes I get it exactly and sometimes I miss it by .001 or .002

i really dont get it, why is it such a big deal weather the other guys car is on or off at the pump?
by the way can some please tell me what the running engine is going to cause.
how is it a safety hazzard? just seeking some knowledge.

I don't see how this is a dumb thread at all, but something like look at my blue leds is a great thread. This thread involves chemical reactions that could *possibly* start a fire. After watching a show on discovery channel I found that it is extremly difficult to make a car explode or even catch on fire. They tried everything from ramming the car from the front, back, left, and right as well as pouring gas all over the engine.
Personally I leave mine on if I'm doing a quick fill up when I'm like putting in $10 which is like a 10 sec fill up now a days. I don't see how having car running or not running makes a difference. The fumes are there regardless they don't just disappear when the car is off. If any chemical engineers out there could give me a more indepth analysis of what would cause a car to blow up that would be appreciated.
The gas cops have yet to come after me for leaving my car on. I've been breaking the law for the last 7 years.

The fact that they tell you to turn the car off is enough reason to do it. Gas stations obviously have the experience to know whats best for the consumer, (that IS their job you know...) and if its better to turn your car off, then do it. You're not proving anything by leaving it on, or turning it off. Just listen to the EXPERTS that run the station, and keep your car.

I leave mine on sometimes, just cause its blistering cold here, and the gas stations here don't have those clicky things that lets u fill up the tank while ur away... so I end up freezing my @ss off, would rather go into a nice n warm car and be off
definitely turn it off. no sense in leaving it running and wasting gas, plus, why risk a spark from static or anything else? just shut the doors and windows and the car should stay decently warm. common sense, i would think.

There is no way that a cellphone can start a fire at a gas station it has never happened before and it is just a myth. Several people have already experimented.
Still waiting for a response from an EXPERT not someone that can just read.

It's nice that you guys can all read the sign though (being that the law requires them to put it there and so that they can duck any nasty lawsuits). So far the only real responses to this issue is that static from entering and exiting the vehicle can ignite the gas fumes? Can't this happen with the car off? The car still has current going through it regardless.

if i were using my cell at a gas station i would more likely be afaid of getting striked by lightening than blowing the place up, even ona dry day lol
Still waiting for a response from an EXPERT to....
